You sure it's not Lake Okeechobee?

EDIT: Actually, it should be Great Salt Lake in Utah. 1,800 sq. miles

http://www.planet101.com/usgeog.htm

For some reason, they don't list Great Salt Lake at all. Hmm... Don't know. Did you know it only gets 25 feet deep at it's deepest point? I

I am full of all kinds of useless information today!

what's hanging Norm?

A few cheeks and a couple of chins..

Lake Ponchartrain is 22 miles across, and about 12 feet deep at the deepest point. Average depth is less than 5 feet deep.

Both it and Lake Okeechobee are freshwater lakes.

Ok, I am not a big SUV fan, but I have to defend the H2 somewhat. Here are some points:

1. Notice that many people in the FUH2 website are taking pictures of thier bird in a car? Notice how many of these cars are on the BIG (ie SUV) side? Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? IMHO, the only people who can justify their 'outrage' on poor gas consumption in the H2 are people who drive around in Honda Insights or mopeds!

2. MPG: This figure is 'n/a' in most magazines for the H2. Why? Because it's an over 8500 GVW vehicle, so the government doesn't require them to test fuel consumption. However, the H2 gets somewhere between 16 and 19 mpg. Here are some other cars and their MPG ratings: (city/highway)
SUV's:
Jeep Grand Cherokee: 15/20
Honda Pilot: 17/22
BMW X5: 14/18
Dodge Durango: 13/18
Kia Sorento: 15/18
Lincoln Aviator: 13/18
Porsche Cayenne: 13/18
Chebby Avalanche: 13/17
Land Rover Range Rover: 12/17
Mercedes G-class: 12/14
Cars:
Lincoln LS: 17/24
Lexus SC 430: 18/23
Jaguar XJ: 17/24
Mercury Grand Marquis: 18/25.
So it appears that for such a heavy vehicle, the H2 gets rather decent gas mileage.

Just a counterpoint,
-Z-man.

What you up to Norm?

My ideal weight if I was 10 foot tall.

Lake Ponchartrain has a bridge that is almost 27 miles across, maybe some of it is over land but I dont remember there being 5 miles of it over land. ELLSSUU could confirm, I think he lives close to the causeway.

Lake Okeechobee it is:

"It is the second-largest freshwater lake in the continental United States, second only to Lake Michigan. Lake Okeechobee's drainage basin covers more than 4,600 square miles (11,913 km2)."

Being an avid SUV hater (for the purpose of commuting), where did you get those figures? If the H2 really did that well on gas, why is the #1 customer complaint the gas mileage? The one guy I talked to who drove one said he got about 9 mpg with mixed city and highway. Now that may be on the low side, but just judging by it's size and weight, I'd give it 15 mpg highway max.

Canadian Driver said their test Hummer H2 got about 16 MPG. The H1s get about 9 in gas and about 11 in Diesel.

Yep - that's where I saw it too. (16-19 MPG).
