Default Which Brake calipers will fit a 89 944 2.7L

are there any brake calipers from other car makes like Audi , Mercedes, VW etc that will fit the late 944 2.7 ?
had a search through ebay and not found anything yet.
Surely these calipers were used on other car makes of that period and not just the 944 ?

The n/a calipers were in fact only used on the 944 series and not other cars. Similar pieces were used on 928s too.

The front piston itself was shared with an Audi 5000.

you can bolt the front calipers from a Volvo 240 (4-piston 38mm) to an n/a spindle with the stock rotor but it doesn’t make much of a difference in actual braking torque.

I'm not looking for improved performance merely for replacement used calipers to recondition and replace mine . It will mean the minimum downtime as its my only vehicle.
The prices here in the UK are simply ridiculous for rusty worn out Porsche calipers that require a complete reconditioning and are mostly in a considerably worst condition than mine.

thanks for the information about the 928 rear caliper I'll look for those as well . it looks like it was used on the 928S model

Have you considered reconditioning the ones you have?

Mainly, sandblast, replace cylinders, seals, boots and all other hardware (clips, bleeder stem, etc)? The main issue with calipers is usually the cylinders and seals, and if you can find those, you can usually rebuild them no problem.

What issues are you having with the calipers?

yes that it my intention but as I said it is my only vehicle and I live in the sticks so I naturally wish to have the minimum 'down time' as possible.
if I hit a snag with any of the calipers on the car whilst renovating them I'd be completely screwed. the car could be off the road for a week or more

I've had good luck with these guys: https://www.douglasvalley.co.uk. I bought an extra set of late front struts so I could convert them to early replaceable shock cartridges without a bunch of down-time.

thanks Jeff I had already done a search of ebay and Douglas advertise there.
I may be expecting too much but frankly I think that £121.00 plus carriage for this rusty old piece of unusable junk is daylight robbery.
Its going to cost a couple of days extensive refurbishment work and at least £150.00 in new parts .
At that cost i'd rather pay £300+ for a new item that I can bolt straight on.

Sellers are just profiteering at the moment because there is a shortage of used parts and they keep a keen eye on what other sellers are charging.

They are happy for these parts sitting on the shelf for a year or more because eventually some desperate owner with more money than sense will buy it thinking its a cheaper option.

Yeah, in that condition I would be expecting a pair of them for that price....

yeah a pair at that price would be a reasonably viable refurb proposition. I've just done a quick service repair on a seizing rear caliper and its working ok a present so I'll bide my time and keep an eye on Ebay and FB .
have a good W/E Jeff

Maybe even worth buying them in the US and shipping for that money.

i recently sold 2 pairs of n/a spindles, hubs, and calipers that I had on the shelf for years for $80 to a local guy.
