There's a rumor going around that the first few euro 951s came from the factory with 15" phonedials. If it's true you could probably keep your stock wheels and get the brakes on that much sooner. Add fresh pads to that parts list.

The first limited run of euro 951's didn't even have big brakes, believe it or not. They had single piston floaters like the 8V non-turbo cars. I have a picture of one somewhere on my computer I need to find. They may have been test mules. Then there were some early 85 euro 951's that had 15" phones with 951 part#'s on them. There is a 'lister on here that has a set, can't recall his name though.

Not having seen the 951 15" phones, I would guess that they have more inner space carved out to allow for the larger calipers. Standard 15" phones don't have enough room to clear the outside corner/edge and bleeder valves of the 951 calipers.

Well Tifo, you got me to thinking. I just had to go pull one of my PDs out of storage (snow tires on 'em) and check the part number. The first few are hard to read, I guess I could have cleaned the inside a little better, but they sure look like 951 making it 951.362.104.00. Anyone have a wheel reference handy? Are there different 15" PDs with 944 part numbers? The third digit of that part # is almost definately a 1, the first could be a 9 (and I cant think of anything else it could be anyway), the second one is the toughest to read but its too wide to be a 1 so I doubt it's a 911 part number.

Hmm. I don't have my PET available on this machine, but a quick online search reveals that a late offset 15X7 phonedial is part# 944.362.104.00. I know that my early offset 16" 951 phones have a 951 part#. I wonder if you have something special there?

Here's the thread with the 951 with 15" 951 phones on it. Took a little creative searching to find.

Why did he want the rears?

Typically, you only upgrade the front calipers and leave the stock rears in place. It is almost impossible to get enough front bias when using the big brakes front and rear, just too much rear brake.

As to the pic, I have my money on the jack under the other side theory.

I am not 100% sure, but i was aware that the first 85 944 turbos actually had the ealry dash, and brakes and 15 inch wheels. I don't remember where i saw this, but i think its true.

I have 15" phones on my turbo. I need to go check the part numbers. If they are the special (and ultra rare/valuable, I'm sure) 15" turbo phones, I could probably be convinced to trade somebody even-up for a set of 951 fuchs as a favor to them since I'm a really nice guy

I don't think my car is very early, according to the VIN it was around the middle of the pack IIRC. I think my car just had some creative owners who switched the speedo for an '87+ and the wheels from an NA.

Yes it kind of sucks, I ordered new tires when I first got it back in '98 and guess what, 16" tires don't fit on a 15" wheel. Luckily tirerack took back the tires and sent me new ones, and I only had to pay the original shipping. My first set of tires had 245/50s on the back and they looked ok, now I have some 225s with a slightly higher profile than stock and they look kind of funny. Now that I have nice paint, I need new wheels!

Just so you know, the rear calipers your dad is getting run the exact same pad as he already runs in the back. The pistons on the 993 caliper are larger at 30 & 34mm whereas the S2 pistons are 30 & 28mm. The front caliper will be larger and he'll need some caliper adapters..usually about $150 for the pair and front rotors from a Turbo S.. 928.351.043.60 and 928.351.044.60. These will be available in plain, slotted or aftermarket drilled. You can use the factory drilled rotors from the front of the 968 M030 but they're rather pricey. Of course he'll need the appropriate pad for the front S4 caliper.
