Question Rear cargo shade

does anybody know how to fix the rear cargo shade? Mine is in very good condition but doesn't retract anymore. Any ideas?

Check the side caps. Are they both there and not broken at all? There is a pin inside which may be slipping. I need to fix mine soon as well, it is currently removed until repairs can be made. I find that having the rear hatch tinted dark works just as well...unless someone uses a flashlight i guess...

(I already answered this one in one of your old posts, I guess you didn't read it)

Are the end pieces broken off? If so, you can go to the dealer and order them, they are cheap. If they aren't, and your spring on your shade is bad, I have a spare black shade that is good with a good spring, it just needs end-caps. Let me know if you need it or not........

End caps, shade and housing are all perfect. Didn't really look yet to see why not retracting guessing the spring is bad. Is that easy to replace?

So...the end caps are held on with pins right? Mine cracked around the pin. Do the new ones come with screws?

The spring is inside the tube that the black vinyl is attached to, similar in a fashion to a cheap pull down window shade. It could still be good, if somehow the endcaps are broken inside and they are not "catching" the little tabs on the end of it. Have you pulled the end caps off to inspect?

Dremel!

I don't think the new ones come with screws, some one else here will need to comment to that. I *think* that they need to be riveted back on, from what I can recall from looking at how they are put together. I'd have to drag the two broken ones and my one good one down from the attic and compare the three.

Yup, they are riveted on. Standard 1/8" pop rivets with work for the reinstallation. A touch of black paint on the head and it will look like you never touched it. With no way to counterhold a nut, screws are unlikely to work (and will look much worse than even an unpainted rivet). I have three black sunshades all with broken end caps if anyone is interested.

Seems to be a popular broken item these cargo shades. Going to check my spring and see what I can do. WIll keep all of your offers in mind.

Do you need a special tool to rivit it back together? IF so where can I get it and about how ,uch?

I got the end caps last week at Zims $16.95 per. The only parts available for this are the endcaps. At least not the spring or roller.
