Power steering problem and poll
One of the lines on my power steering system is leaking when the car is on and it is under pressure, so I've been thinking about just disabling the system by taking the belt off the pump. Is this ok to do to eliminate the leak from continuing? And for those of you who have gotten rid of power steering, do you miss it at all?

I took my belt off 10 days ago or so. So far ive missed it a little, but only in low speed parking lot situations.
On/Off Ramps are even more fun now
Edit: Keep the fluid in tho. And besides if you miss it, its not a big pain to put a belt back on till you can get a manual rack or fix the leak.

I think that we are talking about apples and oranges here.
The true manual rack has the proper ratios for being un-assisted.
Just taking the belt off of a power steering unit is not the same thing. True that it will be "manual", but at low speeds and parking it will be a handful.
Do it once. Do it right. That's why I am doing the same thing Darius did. Except for the fact mine will be easier since I have an early offset car.

I have the belt off now as well, until i can get that part that nobody seems to know what it is. (that 180 degree turn hose, behind the crossmember and in front of the oil pan, anyone got it?) Its ok, doesnt feel like a manual rack... I'll be putting the belt back on. If i wanted manual steering, I'd get a manual rack!

Going from a shot rack when I bought the car, driving it like that, I will not go back there after I did the seals and actually got it working. PS is much more user friendly unless you do the whole swap...
