Default Its been 4 months!!!

And still no car. The guy that works on it has a full time job so he puts in 12H/day and don't get to work on my car alot. Anyway, he called me last night and told me that he only has the door handles and the rear bumper left to install and then he just has to machine and hand glaze the paint. He told me if i could help him out this thursday and saturday after work he should have it all done sunday. My question is, does anyone have step by step direction on door handle installation?

I cant wait to get this car back. 4 months is a LONG time specially if you only had the car for 2 months before it went in for all the work. Thanks alot in advance for the help.

Are you putting the stock handles on or 968 handles?
Icat has a write up on installing 968 handles and it should also explains removal of the stock handles. Just do the steps in reverse.

lets see, best i can do is

take off door panel by taking off screws around the edges, unscrewing the lock tab, and unscrewing the screw in the middle of the inner dooir handle.

Make sure the window is up

ok, now take the door handle with it's seals on it, and tilt and angle it so you can get it in the door.

once it is in, make sure its arms are facing down, (both the plastic lock arm and the metal one). and make sure htey arent caught behind anything

holding the door handle tight against the door and tis seals, where you want it to be, look at the door jam, you'll see a hole a cm or so away from the otuer edge of the door. That is where the mounting screw goes in.

Once that is done. use pliers or if youcan , your fingers to pop the rods into thos arms that were hanigng down, lock mechanism arm to the plastic rod.

adjustment is done by spinning the plastic pieces that the rod attaches to, up and dowdn the rod, but you have to disconnect the rod to adjust.

I think thats it. let me know if theres anythign else.

It took me 3 hours to do the first handle and 20 minutes to do the 2nd one. It gets easier after you do it a couple times.

The write up by yieldsign2 only works on the early cars. You can NOT get to anything of value by removing the door panel on the later models. There is an anti theft device/plate that prevents access to the door handle. You could remove the window and regulator and plate and... But that's a hassle. Use the write up in my sig for the 968 install. There is a portion of the write up that deals with the removal of the stock handles - just do the install in reverse.

That's what I said!
Thanks again for that write up Icat, it was a huge help installing my 968 handles. Same goes for your 968 mirror write up. Just to add, the mirror kit I got from Sunset Porsche included the correct connector and pins!

Early models being 83-85. 85.5 and newer should use icat's write up. I have to add my (continuing) thanx to Keith for the writeup. I also have to agree with 3 hours for the first one, 20 minutes for the next. Copy Keith's writeup and follow it to the letter and you shouldn't have any problems (ordering a smaller set of hands probably wouldn't hurt you either)
