Default The true 944 owners flywheel lock... (pics of course)

Doing my waterpump job right now. I decided to make my own flywheel lock. First off, I cant take credit for the general idea, ill find the thread I got it from and give that person due credit.

I work at a steel shop, this little device is worth $50+ CDN... Meaning I made that much as I made it on company time, overtime at double time ($25/hour ).

It is a strip that goes across, which has a smaller bit welded to it that is filed to fit into the flywheel teeth. I tested it by standing on the smaller bit and jumping. If it holds my 200+ pounds bouncing up and down, I think itll be ok, esp with a screwdriver backup.

And the pic. Ill post shots of the thing itself later if anyone wants, showing the "construction" and what passes for my welds LOL.

Its the Poor Mans Flywheel Lock... For his "Poor Mans Porsche" And im proud, I got my engine at TDC hehe.

I'd feel better about it if the weld was not being held in shear. When you break that crank pulley bolt loose, you are going to put treamendous amounts of stress in shear to the weld on that piece. Looks like good penetration from the heat marks on the backside. Hopefully it'll hold up.

Actually those arent the only welds, theres a weld along the base of the "T" on both sides where they meet, those little sheer ones were kind of a "might as well".

The big bolt is off, came off nice and easy and no squeeks, groans, etc etc from the flywheel lock or anything else so it held up nicely.

Youll see when I remove it and post pics of the welds.... I cant weld worth crap really.

Edit: Before anyone asks, I dont own a welder I just work at a steel shop so I have free run there when im working overtime on the weekend, none of the weekend shift guys give a rats *** what I do as long as im not trying to kill them. This also means scrap steel a-plenty for project such as this.

Good job! I bought one of these myself sometime last year, and when I went to use it for the first time here a few weeks ago, I found out that the tooth part was welded on upside down on the tool, no way was it going to fit in there! I ended up cutting the welds off of it, turning it around, and re-welding it. Really odd I thought. It came from Sir Tools that way.

Pack up into a van, and move?

If moving here is anything like importing a car from the US, youll have more trouble with your boarder guards than with ours. US Boarder Guards are the laziest, most amazingly stupid people ive ever dealt with.
