Default Head removal questions.

Ok, I'm pulling the head. Never done it before, so, naturally I have some questions. Lets start with removal....
1) How do I get the distributor and the thing (great technical vocab huh?) behind it off?
2) How do i get the belts off?
3) um... what else do i need to know?
4) When the head is off, I'm going to rebuild it... What are the components and such the compose of a COMPLETE rebuild?
5) I'm going to get it machined, and while so, a valve job. I'm think 5 angle? I don't know much about the benefits. Can you guys explain to me 3 angle, 5 angle, my options, the benefits and downfalls of both? and what I should expect to feel in difference, if anything?
6) my belts feel pretty loose, how worried should i be?

any advice or anything welcome! thanks, and of course I'll be replacing the HG. I'm trying to decide whether to get the triple metal from guru, or just the widefire.
Any other While your in there things to do?

I have it, but thanks. I pretty much know how to do most everything, and could figure out what I dont know using my own common sense while looking at it, or using clarks, but since I'm asking some qestions, might as well ask em all! thanks.

I am doing mine right now and it's pretty easy. my brother did gash his elbow open taking off the fuel lines. so I would watch out for that

do a quickie search, you might get some answers faster than people can respond.... (um, "blown", "head", "get it off", well, nevermind!)

Every one of your questions is pretty well answered at Clark's Garage - good luck.

Do you need a hand with it? I can swing by tomorrow or Monday if you're interested.

I could use a hand, yes. Mostly cause it would encourage me to do it... you know how it is.... Its sitting out there with most of the stuff of, ready to pull the head, and I need to be "in the mood" lol. I can't do it tom or wed because I work, I'll have to figure it out and run it by you. thanks!

Yea, that's fine. . . just let me know and I can swing by. I'm a sucker for punishment (as if working on mine wasn't enough). . .

That bolt looks like a major PITA, are you going to drill it out or did you get it? Should I bring tools?

that bolt is why the head is coming off. i drilled the bolt out after i tried drill + ez out, and tried to retread it with a tap... well, thats the tap in there! sooo as the hole is most definetly damaged, its off to a machine shop. It ok, it will be nice to have my head prematurly rebuilt, with a really nice valve job, and all new head seals and HG.

How do you break a tap off? Never heard of that. It's suppose to go in easy, a little at a time, and backing it out to get rid of the cuttings. Did you have all of the old bolt out, and the hole redrilled to the next largest size?

Probably not I'd guess, you'd really have to have the head out and mounted in a drill press to do a job like that.
