Default 944 Online Rip Off

I just bought my first and last parts from 944 Online. The hose clamps that I ordered came in and not only were they cheap generic clamps they were the wrong size. I might understand that but I also ordered the hoses from them so they should get the size right. They did charge me for the OEM clamps though, $2.00 each. I did find the correct size in the same cheap clamp at a local parts place that specializes in VW and Audi parts. Only $.88 each. If they are going to ship cheap after market parts they should at least charge the aftermarket price. Should have ordered from Paragon which is my usual source. Always get quality and reasonable prices not to mention great service. Another lesson learned.

I was warning people about 944 Online a few weeks ago. Sorry this happened to you, but like I have said in the past, Ian only cares about himself and how much money goes into his pocket!

I am going to call Ian up and ask about hose clamps for you, because I am interested as to what he is going to tell me - aftermarket or stock. I bet he says he will sell me stock clamps.

To be honest though he probably doesn't know the difference himself.

i've bought parts from Ian and have asked for specific condition and have received it. I have also paid top dollar. But, i find that Ian likes to play games - price is quoted HIGH, and if no response, there is a follow-up quote for less.

IMO, I think you can tell Ian what you want, and bargin for a market price.

I dunno - I've heard good things about him, but I was recently kind of disappointed in his so-called "134a conversion kit" that includes basically a Sanden compressor and little else - including none of the fittings required to actually convert the system to r134a. I got it all worked out and ultimately stuck with r12 in my system anyway, but it kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

I have one experience with Ian, and it's positive. Used part came as promised - and is still functioning 2 years later.

At least you didn't buy a whole car from him, the 60,000 wonder mobile turned out to be a two year rebuild project. Really was my fault to be so gullible. And of course there is his favorite mantra: "hey we're in this together".

With ian, you need to quote him a price from somewhere else, otherwise he will be very high.

i have had great experiences with 944 online. looks like you have had one bad one but come on man, people make mistakes. second these cars can be very unpredictable and although the car may have had problems its not necesarily ians fault. i think this post was not worthy of posting. if you have continous problems with him and he ignores you then you have the right to post. but from what it sounds like you have had one problem that is fixed at a very inexpensive price. now if you want to know stories about real a$$holes i have plenty.

ian has a pretty good reputation on this board. i'll second (or fifty) the price negotiation - he quoted me 145 each for motor mounts, i told him i'd shop around, and whammo, ah 99 each for OE mounts. much better. if he forgets you know what you're doing, he'll immediately quote you the salesman price... sure it's not the most efficient use of your time having to talk down the prices - but i've never had a problem with a part from him, nor have the few guys i know that also have dealt with him. i've been to his shop and met him, his shop is full of OE parts... i'm not sure what kind of hose clamps you got, but i just use the stock ones i have - i've had no problem with them so far. everyone has their off days - not making excuses for ian, but nobody functions at 100%. to me, it sounds like you had jamie or someone else there pack your order. jamie's not the number one porsche guy on my list

that Ian guy told me to sell my 944 and get a honda when i asked prices on the turbo motors.

he acted like he was doing this huge favor for me by telling me to change my chain tensioner and trying to sell me one for $300. whatever.

thats no way to treat a customer, I'll never do business with him, hes a jerk

i'll second the jerk comment.

When my dad asked if he had a return policy, Ian blew up and yelled at my dad (although in a somewhat joking manner) and there was also uncalled for profanity coming from Ian. His humor is very intersting...But...you gotta love the English accent!
