Swepco Red or Blue....can't decide
My friend checked the tranny fluid on my car yesterday and told me that I might as well run water in there, thats how bad it's broken down. Next week I'm bringing the car in to get new fluid and I have the option to go with either Swepco blue or red fluid. What fluid has a better durability and is the viscosity different between the 2?

Red or Blue? Not sure what that means - the gear lube for your car available from Swepco is 201. Maybe you meant Swepco or Redline? If so, I believe you'll find most prefer the Redline over the Swepco in these specific transaxles (early/mid 911/914 usually prefer Swepco). Lots of opinions in the archives here. I prefer Redline MT90 (GL4) or 75W90 (GL5).

Skip, Swepco actually makes 2 types of gear oils that our car can take:
Red- specifically for cars that are tracked and driven hard.
Blue- street cars
I'm trying to figure out which one would be more durable and would take longer to break down. My mechanic is only gonna charge 45 bucks to put either in. I forgot to ask him which is more durable though. So, I'm asking if people use it, which one do they use or reccommend.
I hear redline makes good gear oil too for our cars.

is there a difference between redline and motul? i have a local contact for motul lubricants and a reasonable price and was wondering if i should make that switch (redline -> motul)

ok I got off the phone with a friend of mine that said the red will last longer since I won't be tracking my car as much as I did the last one. Gonna hit up Swepco red instead.

Okay, never heard of them referred to that way. The other street grade stuff is 210. I think you'll find 201 is probably favored for all Porsche applications.

I believe they take about .56 gallons. Check your owners manual in the filling capacities section Bloodraven, I could be wrong.

how much do our cars take?
It depends on the car, but you're always safe with 3 liters/quarts. The oil cooler equipped cars take a bit more than 2.4 liters. The others take only 2.1 liters. 968 takes the most.
On yours, fill to 6-8mm from the hole (car level). 968 changed the design so they fill right up to the inlet. Here's a tech-session article on that: http://www.tech-session.com/kb/index...x_v2&id=54&c=4
Good Luck!
