Default Opinions on this chain tensioner?

I think the pictures speak for themselves. Who needs those pads anyway?

I am dumbfounded or speechless or something. Have you bought any lottery tickets lately. Have you found any plastic bits in there anywhere? I wonder if it was installed w/o the pad. wtf over.

The first pic was the bottom of the tensioner. That came off a spare head I bought for the car. I search the head and only found one plastic bit, but the valve cover had already been off, so I imagine most of the bits were already removed. I replaced the pad on my car when I did the belts. Funny thing is, the chain really doesn't look that bad for all that wear, but it will be replaced in the rebuild!
