Default 1987 Porsche 944, Clutch Slave cylinder

Hi

I recently put a post about overhauling the clutch pedal slave cylinder. Last week I ordered from a local parts house to find out these were the wrong parts. I then ordered a complete slave cylinder from a Porsche supplier. Guess what the part is different from the one that was on the car. The car is a 1987 Porsche 944. The one sent to me has a push rod going to the clutch pedal, the old one has it on the clutch pedal. Has this happened to anyone, if so what gives. I don't think it is the Porsche suppliers fault, because the parts house sent the overhaul parts that would have fit the unit they sent. The part that is on the car appears to have been on the car for a long time. All fluid lines are located opposite than the original.

Anyone with any information that may help would be appreciated.

Edward

The clutch slave cylinder is on the clutch housing and is not connected to the pedal. Are you talking about the clutch master cylinder that attaches to the firewall and is actuated by a rod connected to the clutch pedal?

Default Clutch pedal slave

Hi

I am refereing to the clutch pedal slave cylinder that is attached to the firewall behind the brake fluid reservoir. The Haynes repair manual refers to it as such in chapter 8 of their repair manual. It looks identical as what is shown in the book.

Thanks

That's the master. The rod just comes out. you can use your old one or you can use the new one, there is a little clip that holds the rod on. If you use the new one take off the little end peice that screws onto the old rod.

Edward,

To be clear, the clutch pedal operates the master cylinder which operates the slave cylinder.

Did you get a slave cylinder to replace the master cylinder? That would explain why the parts are different.

I understand what you are saying. The Haynes manual is stupid...it got it wrong...here is a slave cylinder

this bolts onto the starter underneath the car...what you have is a master cylinder...jsut unhook everything from the pedal....use a u-joint and pull out the master from the firewall, take the pushrod out of it...and put the old one in!

also replace teh slave at the same time....cause if you don't, the slave will go soon anyway

I agree with the guys above. The unit mounted to the wall is the clutch master cylinder and it really sounds like you bought a slave cylinder. The master has a hole that the clutch rod from the pedal slides into and the slave has the rod already in it.

Thanks, you hit it right on. It is the clutch master cylinder.

Thanks, I appreciate the help.
