I'm thinking a drop of rubber cement will do the job. Silicone is a mess, and vasoline is, well, a mess too!

I CAN see the value of petro jelly at sea, to prevent rust, etc.

get the silicone in the toothpaste type tube. i have an open one i should have brought. the clear stuff is great.

if you are concerned about overage, use the carpenters trick. put tape around what you are doing, smear it with your finger (wipes of easily with a paper towel) and pull the tape when it dries. worked great on the seam between my countertop and backsplash in the kitchen, and around the base of my faucet in the bathroom.

I'll buy the clear stuff when I go to the local NAPA to buy plugs to patch the holes in the firewall put in by my friendly neighborhood idiot stereo guy!

Oh, wait...I have a tube of that stuff that I used to fill the gap in the top of the hatch glass...in an attempt to stop the noise caused by...those SNAPS!

Car stereo installers scare the hell outta me!
Granted, some are VERY good at what they do,(Like Rod Birch)
But I think the majority will take bad short cuts.

Who and where is Rod Birch??

Sometime this weekend, I'm gonna:

Install the new head unit
run RCA cable to the sub (new head unit has RCA out)
Install my cruise control brain

Just when I think of a possible solution (the empty bin areas behind the rear wheels and under the carpet & padding), the issue was solved.

Oh well, back to figuring out the optimum number of beer bottles and amount of ice to stick in those bins...
