The best way to find it is to have someone back there to listen and touch stuff until you isolate it.

like the guy who won a darwin award by hanging under the pickup truck to see where the noise was coming from.

andy, try a sponge, or even a sock, just be careful not to put too much pressure on the glass.

Yeah, that's true. I should have my wife drive me around while I hold the hatch struts, etc. Or Dave!

Dave sounds like a good choice. If he is available, I should have a route (that ends on the corner of prospect and franklin IIRC) for the two of you to drive that should probably find the sound.

If there is a friendlys on the route, I will even spring for fribbles, big spender that i am.

i spoke to the guys wife this morning. she said he is supposed to get it back today. she also told me the latest to call is about 8:30 because he gets up really early.

dave is not available this weekend. I ran a mapquest and found out he isn't as far as he made it sound. How long does it take you to get to brooklyn? that should be about how long it takes me to get to him. i may try to go myself very early saturday. if I do and it is not good i screwed myself out of the time to check out the '80 if it is still around.

Takes me 45 mins to an hour to get to Bklyn, depending on traffic, etc. I'd go with you if you wanted a second opinion. Or, I can check it out for ya...
Let me know.

I have a rattle that sounds like what you describe, it sounds like it's coming from the top of the hatch area.

My mechanic told me it's the deterioration of the ceramic coating in the turbo downpipe that's causing the noise. It sure doesn't sound like it, but that's what I've been told.

Joe...Nice car! Was just in Chester last weekend...there's a cool ice cream parlor...forgot the name though.

Sounds like BS to me...deterioration of what?? Causing a rattle?? I'll let you know if it turns out to be the hatch struts.

andy, check your email, then check www.nada.com the others are lower. coincidence - i think not!

also, i thought you were going to post here that you drove home barefoot just so you could stuff your sock by the strut to see if thats where the noise was coming from. also, you could use the oldest trick in the book to get rid of the noise.... turn the radio up to 11 nigel, up to 11.

The subwoofer and a loud tune definately covers the creaking and rattling...and a lot of the engine too. Good and bad. I tend to listen to the engine to know when to shift. With loud Van Halen on, I wind up in 3rd when I should be in 5th!

The barefoot thought crossed my mind!! Funny!
