Default centercaps

i am trying to kinda polish my centercaps and paint the crests.....i cant seem to get these spots in between the circle and the crest. is it possible that the aluminum is inconsistant or something? i went ahead and sprayed one that had the darker spots. it isnt real bad, but i can see it. this sucks.

Because misery loves company, I thought I'd share something with you. I was recently applying "Forever Black" to my side mirrors on my 951S. I kind of slipped and got it on the paint, and contrary to the instructions, it didn't come off my paint!! It's a great product, but I found out the hard way, even though I was being quite careful, that it will indeed stick to your paint!

I have some clay on the way, and had not thought of trying it on the Forever Black. Good idea! This is one time that I hope it's not really "forever" black!

Hey guy's- are the different types of "Adhesive remover"? I tried some today, but, didn't look CLOSELY at the lable- removing my door gaurds & there was still a tiny bit of adhesive where I pulled the little piece off the passenger fender to the front of the door- it was a gel-type substance & it fogged up a little- I then, accidentally scraped my thumbnail against it, barely, & it took a layer off- it ACTUALLY looks like it removed the clear coat- i looked at the label more carefully, &, it says it's for removing floor adhesive- it was the ONLY type of adhesvie remover the place had, so I grabbed it- now I'm pissed I may have wasted $7! Couldn't care less about the car- the panel had just been hit in my parking lot anyway... I've been told about "adhesive remover" for months, but, never knew there were different types- are there? I'm thinking this stuff would work well for removing the stone gaurds, which I desperately need to do- I'm just afraid too now...

Zippo lighter fluid pretty much takes off most gum, oil and residue.

I keep a can of lighter fluid, acetone, and mineral spirits around. One of them will usually remove any type of residue. The trick is figuing out which one to use. It's always best to try it on a small inconspicuous area.

I would vote for black with painted crests on cookie cutters but that's just me. Here's a set I did with polished crests and another with painted crests.

Polished

Painted before

Painted after

I'd vote for black with painted crest or something like this:

Cloisonne crest (off 356 hood handle) on original anodized hubcap.

Polished caps look good on polished wheels though.
