shocks and struts.
i have black struts, and yellow shocks. im guessing the rear shocks are original. the front, you can see where the original strut fender seat(?) is smaller and more roundish than the surrounding undercoating mark. so my question is: if i were to do 3 back flips in a row on a trampoline..... no wait, i mean, ive been looking for shocks on line, but i dont know what the replacement should be.....arent the yellows konis? and the fronts on the early cars are easy to just use an insert right? but what do i get? what other ways are there to tell what i can use? because dont konis have to be replaced with konis and the boge/sachs have to be replaced with those or bilsteins? which are more preferred? are there any **** adjusted konis out there for my early 85 944? i cant seem to find them.

I think the Koni, Bilstein, and Boge all make struts that will fit. What you need to know is what was originally installed because the mountings were different. So if yor car orignally had Boges, you need struts designed to replace Boges. Maybe if you find the manufacturer and part number stamped on the struts, a parts store can tell you what you need.

I am fairly certain that the rears are konis and you can replace them with anything. I'd recommend Konis from Paragon.
The fronts, should be easy to replace via inserts. More than likely Konis will work. Check the outside markings on the strut housing. I'm fairly certain the Konis work in the Koni and Sachs housings, not too certain of the Bilstein. Get the info from the housing and call Jason at Paragon to check.
Are you coming to the Tajmagaraj event the first weekend in June?

The yellows will say Boge on them. If you have a threaded nut on top of your fronts, Paragon will sell you a drop in Koni yellow sport. If you do not have a nut, you can still use Koni yellows, but you will have to do slight Strut modification - (you can also but sleeves and collars from them and make coilovers for $80.00 and dont forget bump rubber).
Yellow stock rears are also Boge - Koni yellow direct replacement is also available.

oh i thought you meant the front coilovers. so rear coil overs would get rid of the torsion bars? is it better that way? or did porsche really know what they were doing?

Manning sorry, my friend. If you go to any race shop and show them a Boge 944 OEM shock and say fix my coilover - they will laugh at you and tell you it is really a Macpherson strut. Coilovers have threads.

In what is now common automotive vernacular, you are correct. And it has be adopted by most shock and spring manufactured because of this. However, technically the term originated to describe an assembly with the coil spring and shock or strut assembled as a unit, whether with adjustable ride height or not.
