I've got 1984 944 with a starting issue that I cannot crack the code on, but I'm starting to believe I've got myself a bum DME computer. Longshot because I'm not sure how many of us live in Los Angeles, but does anyone have a DME computer that I could throw into my car for 30 seconds to verify my suspicions before I have to shell out $400 for a new one? I'm in Sherman Oaks, I can come get it from you, or I can pay for gas for you to bring it to me (would love a second brain to give the car a look to see if it unlocks something), whatever makes it as painless for you as possible, it would be incredibly helpful!

Another way to approach this is: "Anyone in the LA area with an early 944 that can let me try my suspect DME in your car to see if it is broken?" Much less work for them, and way less risk.

This is the way. I'd be hesitant at the least to plug my DME into a known problem car.

Sorry, I suggested that he make this post. Of course, you are both right, he should plug his bad DME into a known good car. So anyone reading this, take it to mean that.
