Default 4 Degree Cam Offset Key

Anyone have experience or thoughts on the 4 degree cam offset key?

I have things apart at the moment doing a major reseal on my early 85’ and have been thinking about it.

Where have you sourced the key and what kind of work did you have to do to the key so it would fit? I have heard it’s not a good fit straight from the package.

928motorsports used to carry them, maybe they still do?
The one I got from them around 10 years ago dropped right in without mods.

But absolutely 100% yes get it and set it 4 degrees advanced. The car will feel great, much more responsive and enjoyable to drive.

RATS!!
I just went to their website and the 4 degree is out of stock. They have 8 of the 2 degree in stock. I think I’ll give them a call and see when they might get more of the 4 degree in.

Thanks for the info. Now you’ve got me itching to get one.

Check into replacing your throttle cam too. A quick opening replacement cam will make the car feel peppier because you're pushing the accelerator down less to get response.

I've recently (April 2022) installed both the 4 degree cam advance and the throttle cam. The cam advance with the stock throttle cam was a subtle improvement. With both mods there was a definite and strong improvement. The stock throttle cam tips in very slowly so as to make launching and shifting smooth. I needed to adjust to the faster throttle response over the last month, and I definitely recommend both of the mods. keyway

Side note: My cam key was poorly made and I needed to be re-profiled to properly fit into the keyway. I have informed 928Motorsports about this so (hopefully) they will make an improved version available.

I have seen a few posts in various places about that same cam key issue. The fix is to file it down to make it fix. I just don’t think I want to be filing down something so vital and also something you pay good money for. It should just be plug and play.

This is exactly the information I was hoping to get from this post. Thank you for being candid. Maybe 928 is out of stock because of the issue and they are getting them remade. I will be contacting them today and will report back.

@944StaceyQ I only filed off the minimum amount of material to allow a snug fit in the keyways. I didn’t take a before pic but here is the after pic:

I contacted 928Motorsports and asked about the 4 degree key. They stated that had some in stock just not listed as such on the website because they sell so fast. They sent me a PayPal invoice and will be sending one out.

I can’t wait to get this installed after I put everything back together!

Agree with post on needing to file the key. Mine wasn’t really even close to a drop in fit. A good session with the file got it to a good fit. But it does give some pep, not a lot, but enough to be noticeable.
