Anybody ever get their injectors cleaned? I'm going to take a set of mechanical VW injectors (probably similar to what a 924 would use) to a local 'Doctor Injector' place. The guy on the phone told me it's $21 ea to clean them correctly (they're about $51 ea new), and that although they do sell new injectors he's never had to replace Bosch mechanicals, they seem to do really well w/ their servicing. Any experience w/ these kinda places?

Had mine done at RC Engineering last year. Good job, I think that all any of these places do is run cleaner through them at high pressure. They don't really "take it apart" and "rebuild" them.
Mine worked real well untill one failed inernally and started leaking.
I have since bought a new set from a guy called "fuel under pressure"

The KCWS has been cleaning them ourselves with success... we've done about 6 sets now. I picked up and modified a garden sprayer to use for pressurizing the injectors with cleaner(basically by just hooking up a hose thats the right size to feed the injector). Then I picked up a momentary single pole switch and 9 v battery lead, and wired it up to an old injector lead that I cut off a junk wiring harness.
To clean the injectors, I take the pintel cap and o-rings off and soak the injectors in a container with carb cleaner. I then pull them out, dry the off and then hook up the injector to the "harness", and connect the hose from the garden sprayer to the top of the injector and pressurize it (not too much, but enough to shoot the cleaner through it when its opened electronically). Hit the switch for a couple of seconds at a time, until you get a nice clear, steady stream out of the injector, and then reassemble the injector using Rennbay injector kits. Be sure to use atf or power steering fluid on the pintel cap when you press it back on, and make sure you get it complete seated.
Regards,

If you clean them yourself, it might be a good idea to back flow them first. 83na944 pointed me to a good writeup on how to clean them when I was looking into this before. It's here:

When I cleaned mine two of them were pretty gummed up and after looking at the cleaner that came out of them, I'm glad I flushed them backwards first.

I got a diesel shop to do mine, it cost about $18 each including new o-rings and hats. The thing about a shop is that they can do before and after flow rates, and check the pattern, which may or may not be useful.
