Question Oil cooler

87 924S would like to put a front oil cooler on it. Will the filter housing with the remote cooler just bolt up to the 2.5L block?

I believe you will need to install a turbo oil filter console , anyhow that's what i had to do on my 2.5 NA

Cheers

Yes! Then you'll just need the other stuff like hoses and cooler. Lindsey Racing has some cool options, though none are cheap.

OK, so the first thing is to get the Turbo console then look at plumbing it up. Looked for T&T pictures but could not find them. Not in a rush I just wanted to know if I needed to start checking eBay for the console.

I have the whole turbo setup (console, cooler, hoses) which I bought used quite some time. Maybe you would be interested in making a deal on that. You might also want to look at the Setrab website. They have some arrangements that add a piece under the oil filter to remove and return the oil. The advantage is you get new hardware

Well T&T I have used sandwich adapters in several of my cars, with good results. I was thinking of staying more stock set up with the Porsche console but what matters most is cooling the oil. So that is why I was looking at the turbo console as a bolt on. The plumbing should not be to hard plenty of aftermarket suppliers for the fittings and hoses. So my question with the sandwich adapter has the oil already gone through the oil/water cooler then to the filter, then to the oil/air cooler and back to the engine?

The oil goes through the sandwich oil/water cooler, then exits from the oil filter adapter to the inlet of the external oil cooler, exits the external oil cooler to the oil filter adapter inlet, then through the oil filter to the engine

T&T, Thanks the info I needed, so with the stock systen and a sandwich adapter the oil is double cooled. And a oil temp gauge with the sender on the adapter you should get the temp as it goes back into the engine.

I agree with Tom, the sandwich adapter at the oil filter would be upstream of the oil cooler unit. Just a detail but I would look at a thermocouple on your return line from the supplemental cooler. You don't want to measure at the adapter, as you will only get an average temperature, which all the metal parts willl tend to come to..

Install the temperature sensor adapter between the outlet from the external oil cooler and the inlet to the sandwich adapter.
BAT, Inc is you best value for purchasing the components for the external oil cooler and associated piping. I purchased a HD Mocal oil cooler. Setrab is too expensive.

The temperature sensor needs to be immersed in the oil flow. Improved Racing has the adapter and other neat stuff.
