in the game hitman: contracts, there is a general who you have to kill and his last name is Fuchs. in the game they pronounce it *****.

Since when is the proper pronunciation of a word left to opinion? This is like saying "Porsh." Shall we have a poll on that?

Christian...If you were saying it, wouldn't it be "foochs", with the ch making a soft "k" sound?

Yes it would. However the soft "k" sound you are speaking of would be a rolling of the back of your tounge.

Since when did I ask for someones opinion on how the word is said? Maybe read the question a little better and you may understand that I am asking what everyone THOUGHT the pronounciation of the word was BEFORE they learned the correct pronounciation. It's not that hard to figure out...

I have a German colleague who is named Fuchs....and she pronounces her name as "foooks".

I was born in Germany and lived there for years, when I am in the states and introduce myself I dont use german pronunciation for my name.

We had this debate on pelican, someone pointed us to a phonic german dictionary on the web.

The pronunciation there was like "took" or "look" which became ***** (not rhyming with puke or luke). That's how I've said it.
