Default balance tentioner (just to make this question easy im including easy pictures)

ok, the tentioner on the balance belt can go 2 ways. yep thats right TWO WAYS. the only reason this is exciting news is... well ok its not exciting. anyway what is the proper way for it to sit. I was having trouble wiht the idle roller not touching both parts of the belt that pas close to it and i think i realise why now. if you put the eccentric nut UP then the belt moses UP also. Im guessing i had it on htere wrong but i just want to make sure seeig as how this is a sensetive subject.

here are some easy pictures to understand what im talking about.

and heres the other way it can go

which way is correct.

thanks

ok how about this.

tell me whats going on here.

all the marks and Os and Us line up in this picture. BUT you are looking at the BACK of the sprocket. that means when i actually put the sprocket on the shaft it will all be the opposite of the diagram. WHAT is going on here?!?!?! i am having so much trouble getting crap to work right for me lately.

someone fill me in one why this is like this.

Down. The other idler is adjusted last. Reason: Always maximize your belt contact on the driven pulleys.

The other smooth idler should just touch the belt run at the top and almost touch the belt that goes around the balance shaft pulley.

Make darn sure you hold the large hex on the idlers and tensioners while you tighten the locking nut. Some have beem known to pull the stud out of the block.

That is NOT the back of the pulley. The fixed flange with the notch goes toward the engine. The nut holds the front flange/washer on.

i need a list of the things that have gone wrong on my car because of that.... its a big one too. just a small vibration over a few hundred miles ca tear apart your whole engine.

I feel for you. Fortunately I've already made most of my major goof ups.

I keep a gallon of "regular" paint thinner and a brush just to clean small parts.
