Exclamation gutting the cat. Already searched (now gutted)

well I yanked the cat from the automatic parts car and now with my short shifter I had to try and get some bolts out of my exhaust and I had to grind them out so It might be best anyway to put a new cat on.

I have done what the searches brought up.

Broom handle
floor jack bar and mallet.
Ive rattled it
smacked it
hit the inside of it.
But the mesh will not break up!!

Ant other suggestions.
And please dont say "just get a test pipe" and " It loses power"
Saw enough of that argument in the search results

Are you concerned about passing emissions?

Yes, try harder. You will eventually mess up the end of the jack handle, just as an idea of how tough this stuff really is.

Pound the handle in as far as it'll go, then wiggle and pull it back out. Put it back in at another angle and pound away. Eventually you start getting the stuff out.

I can't really see how a broom handle would survive, as every cat I've ever gutted has really required a severe beating.

I tried the broom handle myself...didn't work quick enough for me.

I cut it in half....took the stuff out...then welded it back together. Much quicker...the flanges on the side are perfect to spot weld and start from there.

I used a long crowbar. Much stronger than a broomstick.

i used a 6 foot long barbell. a little awkward, but damn did it work!! then i used a 3/4" wide strip of metal i bought at home depot, bent a hook at the end, and used it to pull stuff out of the cat.

Sorry Camp,

But I've done it twice, and regretted it twice. Lost a good deal of low end torque, and the sound is bad. This was on 2 different cars. I ended up buying a new cat on the second one because I was so dis-satisfied with the results.

A high-flow cat will be a better choice!

Considering GA will allow anything with enough solid metal to bolt a plate to get plates, I don't think he'll have a problem.

Hmmm, Atlanta metro does require emissions testing.
