Default Headlight Motor Relay Cover

I ordered a new cover for the headlight motor relay and the hole that the harness fees through is way too small to feed the connector through. Any tips on installing the new relay cover? Should I de-pin the connector and feed the wires through one ar a time and then install the pins back in the connector?

Either depin it or cut off the part with hole and use zip tie.

I did this recently, and de-pinned the connector.

I used a tool like this:

LECWOF Set of 21 Auto Electrical Wiring Crimp Connector Pin Extractor Puller Terminals Removal Key Tools Set for Car Remover Key Repair Tools Set for Most Connector Terminal
Amazon Amazon

Just push the correct size through the face of the connector and pull the pin/wire out.
snap a pic before you start to plug it all back together after you get the boot on.
Even depinned it was kind of a chore. A bit of dish soap really helps getting the wires into the boot.

De-pinning the connector is the only way to do it. It's super easy to do on the connectors in these older cars.

I appreciate the advice! I'll de-pin the connector and install it tomorrow afternoon when I'm out working on the car.

Make sure you take a picture of which color wire goes where before you pull it apart

I definitely will. If I didn't, I would likely not remember which pin to put in which location. I'm thinking the relay cover was likely installed on the harness as the harness was being manufactured. As if it were originally part of the harness and maybe not available separately for some time when the car was new. And after they started to degrade, Porsche released the part separately. Just a theory. Perhaps it was available from the start.

Disconnect the battery!!!! prior to depinning.
One of the wires to the motor is a terminal 30 (constant hot).

It turns plout that my de-pinning tools are not suitable for these type of connectors. I think I'll need to get a hollow barrel style de-pinning tool. I have a flat de-pinning set but these pin locks are much different.

I was afraid that would happen to you. I bought a whole set on amazon and each tool has a big ring end dipped in black plastic and the tips have multiple shapes. The metal on these tools is very thin and you'll be lucky to complete one or two jobs. I wound up finding a tool made by Delphi pn 12014012 that was pretty good. I'd recommend buying a couple of different tools since some work better than others. Saw this one recently and the push rod would be helpful too. This tool is needed if you ever want to remove your mirrors w/o cutting the wires.

That tool looks to be the shape that I will need for the headlight motor connector. I wonder if the pins are the same diameter for the mirror as well as the headlight motor.

Anyone know the part number for this relay cover? I'm struggling trying to find it in the PET. Upper and lower motor covers I can find, but this one is being elusive.

Edit: Never mind. 477-971-923

Default Depinning the molex connector

Let us know how that works out for you. I have had zero luck with finding a good tool, no matter how they were advertised. There are several under dash connectors similar to that one that would help me with my rewiring project. TIA😀.

Default Headlight motor plug.

There is a very good and informative article about this plug and it’s wiring on “Foot to the Floor” site. 😀
