Default Tall person leg room in 944

Hi all,

I am 6' 5" (195 cm) tall and all legs - 38" (96.5 cm) inseam. I have read all of the tall person threads I can find, but they all talk about head room. The general consensus seems to be that leg room is fine. Unfortunately, I have the opposite problem. I can (and do) drive the car, but my legs are constantly bowed around the steering wheel, so heel-toe is completely impossible. This makes longer trips uncomfortable as well. I was wondering if anyone has the same problem and / or knows of any ways to address this.

I know that aftermarket steering wheels and spacers can extend the wheel a bit. That would help some and recommendations are appreciated!

I would also love to have an additional few inches of leg room though. I did find this, but obviously it's not made specifically for a 944. Does have any experience with this or anything like it?

I'm not really interested in completely replacing the seat unless it's the only option and would totally solve this problem.

Thanks!

I am 6'6 and about a 37" inseam.
I have never found leg room lacking and the steering wheel doesn't really bother me - but I have never been able to heel-toe simply because my shoes are too big and the pedals too close together.

Head room has always been my bigger concern, to the point I am about ready to cut out the factory rails that the seat bolts to and bolt the seats to the floorpan directly.

I think I saw a reply from you in another tall person thread. Very interesting. Maybe it's my expectations that need adjusting more than the seat. Maybe I should start with extending the wheel and see if that frees up my knees enough to get more comfortable.

6'4" 34" inseam and my seat sits quite far forward - so much that I could not reach the steering wheel if the seat were adjusted all the way back.

These cars fit surprisingly well for tall people-although with a helmet my head does hit the ceiling...

Maybe post of photo of your position while sitting in the car with the door open so we can see how your posture is set.

Think I have you all beat! I'm just a shade short of 6'9" with 38" inseam, and while I understand the steering wheel issue to some extent, it really hasn't been any major issue. I do recall that there was an extended hub option for the 944, that might be helpful.

Is there a difference in wheel placement (height?) between early and late cars?

An adjustable throttle pedal will help set up for smooth heel toe shifting.
I have the Rennline pedal and heel toe shift whenever I drive my 951, becomes habit.
I ended up moving the throttle pedal closer to the brake pedal and only use the top extension plate.
BUT, I can only drive the car with driving shoes, no exceptions.

I am a short guy here at 6'3" but I am about 310lbs so my thighs are quite thicc, and I can't heel toe either. I did drill holes in the seat rails and the hinge is now buried in the side carpet and will not go any further back. I have Recaros and a Momo wheel w/o extension. To me, it is the angle of my lower leg that prevents heel toe, so if I sit slightly crooked, and tuck my knee down, I can do it, but then my left leg is jammed up and I can't clutch so what's the point.

Sorry I am no help.

6'5" here, welcome tall guys. We noticed at early 944Fests that there seemed to be a lot of tall guys present, and it seems the trans axle layout with no trans hump is ideal for us.
I'm leggy as well and never could comfortably fit in a Corvette, Viper or 911.
Pick up a race seat plunk it on the floor or close too it, you'll have so much space that you could buddy buckle vertically.

944s could have been had with an optional steering wheel M018 (it's in PET--might be wrong code) that came with an extension piece. You often see these on used steering wheels and the sellers sometimes don't know it's an optional addon that can be removed.

Some people have figured it out, remove the extension, and sell it separately.

Here, you can see just the extension that I bought--it came with a steering wheel--and I installed it on the back of a MOMO hub (I had to drill & tap new holes but on a stock wheel, the holes already exist)

Note that this option is only for non-airbag steering wheels. This extension does not fit on airbag wheels.

I found the 944 a little cramped, so I went over to the 911:

Replica spacers of the factory version can be bought from Carbone. Available for multiple types of wheels.
