Oil Change Tip
I have always removed by oil filter by unscrewing it, and letting the remaining oil spill into a plastic bag. Once in a while, I'd slip up and cause a slight spill on the garage floor. I'd just learnt about this tip:
* Drain the oil. Leave the drain plug out.
* Remove the oil filler cap.
* Take a hammer and a long phillips screw driver and punch a hole on the top of the oil filter.
* Remove the screw driver.
* Remove the coil wire from the ignition.
* Turn the engine over for about 10 seconds, 2 times (for a total of 20 seconds).
* Now you can remove the oil filter and you will have no oil spilled.
* Remember to lubricate the seal on the oil filter with new oil when you install it.
Is this new to everyone, or am I simply the only ostrich who forgot to pull his head out of the hole in the ground?

Not new to some of us, but always worth repeating - I refuse to change my oil because it's so messy on this car - I'm remote mounting the filter to a better spot before changing again.

i dunno. but i didnt seem to spill any. i just took off my distributor cap. and took off the oil filter, and kept it at the same angle that it is positioned when screwed in and nothing came out.

A whole back someone changed the oil while he was very close on the drain side of the oil pan. The pics. of him with oil on his clothes and face were kinda funny. I really don't know how he managed that though.
Trying to see what came out?
Another tip.

Some have suggested this in the past, and others have feared that punching a hole in the filter may introduce metal pieces into the oil, which would then drain into the oil lines.

I just have a fear of cranking that long with only the few ounces of oil that the filter holds. I don't change it myself due to the mess/PITA.
This has just given me an idea!
I have an oil change pump from the boat, the kind where the hose goes down the dipstick tube and sucks the oil out. Maybe if I punch that hole in the filter and suck the oil out of it with the pump...
