Trying (without success) to deal with a couple of issues with the 84. I didn't find this covered in the archives:

For reasons unknown, with ignition switched on, the warning chime on my 84 sounds off without stop until/unless I buckle the driver's seat belt. The chime no longer "dings" but emits a constant, obnoxious tone. Also, the seatbelt light on the console remains lit whether or not the seatbelt is buckled. Bad grounds and/or bad warning chime relay?

Anyone had this problem and if so, what was the fix?

Also, someone please let me in on the secret to removing the warning chime relay? It refuses to budge using normal force. Hope it ain't welded in there!

SoCal, can you harken back 19 years and recall if removing that relay was inordinately difficult or tricky? Mine's been in there 20 years and looks like I'm gonna have to take a pry bar to it.

I just pulled mine out about 2 hours ago after it really started pissing me off. I just got my hand up in there and wiggled and pulled. It came right out.

Part number 928.618.102.03 ? I am looking for one for my '87 (my chime says it was made on December 08, 1986 if someone has one made close to that date that'd be even better ), if someone wants to sell theirs.

I have the same problem! When I have the ignition on the chime comes on, and won't go off until i put my seat belt on....HOWEVER, when I shift my weight to left part of the seat, the chime goes off. Shift to the right, it comes back on...very funny, though it gets annoying.

The relay is just plugged in. It is probably just stuck in there after 20 yrs Carl. If you do get it out and want to test out a working chime before purchasing another (if you decide to do so) I can bring mine over. From what I remember, the relays are sometimes difficult to remove (had to go through all of them on the 86). Perhaps Travis has some sort of genius way to remove them? Maybe spraying electronics cleaner under the relay and letting it set might break it loose enough to remove?

I DO have a warning chime, I just never noticed mine haha. Luckily mine works properly it seems.

Yeah,mine makes it whether my seat belts buckled or not.I have to squirm around in my seat to get it to stop.When it does it,it sounds like a fax machine gone mad!Extremely annoying that only 600 watts of stereo can overcome.Not one of their better ideas.Obviously,a sensor in the seat/seatbelt somewhere but I couldn't find it to disarm it.

OK where the heck does this go? There's no mention of it in the diagram in the owner's manual. I noticed that my red "seat belt warning" light doesn't test "on" with the other two (brake pads & emergency brake) when you put the key in & turn it on (but before you crank the engine), so I suspect that it's tied into this "mystery relay" somehow. Where does it go???

I'm not looking to annoy the crap out of myself with the ding-dong chime, but I'd at least like to know everything that's been changed (no matter how insignificant) on the car so I can make it "100% original" if I ever want to.

As the car was about three years old it came out fairly easily. Didn't leave it's inners behind like the wiper relay recently did.

I would take a very cheap smallish screw driver and bend about 1/8" of the tip 90 degrees. Use this to reach in beside the relay and pry it out side to side. Some times it's best to disconnect the battery as some of the connections on the relays are always hot.

Hmmmm does 85.5 have a seatbelt light? mine never lights up if it does.

Do UK spec S2's have a chime???
I've never heard mine and I'm always wandering off and leaving the lights on.
Incidentally (OT) never polish the dash it reflects too much when driving into the sun.
