Default Help! Is this a huge deal?

Was driving today and I heard a knocking noise like metal on metal. So when I got out I looked under my car and I found this part hanging in from my engine. the pic isn't my car its just to show the part.
Is my car alright to drive? The pipe is about 2 feet long.

Whoa....is there any way you can get a better pic? It almost looks like a dipstick or something, but I really can't tell...and do you have a carbon fiber exhaust mainfold or supercharder or something? What's that big box on the right?

I know exactly what that part is. has something to do with emissions, but the pipe just goes to nowhere from the exhaust. When I did my rebuild, I broke mine off and filled the hole with solder. car ran fine, so I beleive that it's not important.

So it shouldn't pose any problems. It doesn't have anything to do with the AC? I seem to hear a little whislting noise now comming through my vents.

Yeah, that sound is the exhaust whizzing by the hole, kinda like when you blow over the top of a pop bottle. nothing to do with the AC, but I'd recommend plugging the hole so ya don't kill yourself with Carbon Monoxide as your driving down the road.

no, it's a port where you can sample exhaust gas from underhood, it may rattle, but should be capped as in the pic.

Well the whole 2 foot pipe fell off the car. It was just hanging from the bottom of my engine. So I take it that it hooks right to the exahaust pipe somewhere?

Yeah, like was already m entioned, it's for sniffing the exhaust while underhood instead of undercar =)
If you don't need it in your state, feel free to remove it.
The canadian cars don't even have it, one less thing to worry about.

If it fell off, it'll leave a hole in the exhasut. IIRC, it's attached to the exhaust pipe with a compression fitting and a lug nut fits it perfectly.

Just cap it off and you'll be fine.
