Coolant Leaks from top of engine ..
Hello All,
I have developed a Coolant Leak that is occurring at the top of my 944S2 engine intake manifold.
There is a small Black Metal fitting it is located right above and behind the AFM assy. there is a small hose connected to it and it goes under somewhere to the block I imagine ?
The small black fitting is popping out from top of engine ..and then the coolant leaks out all over the top of the engine comaprtment causing the Engine lite to come on due to over temp.
I have to pour new coolant fluid back into the car throught the Plastic Over fill tank..
I have tried to tap this small lack fitting back into place , without any success !
I am not sure of the name of the small black metal fitting , I need to know in order to buy a replacement.
Should this fitting be popping out of place ?? is this a sign of something else
Is there too much PSI causing the fitting to pop out of place ?
Is this fitting the problem or is thee assy that the fitting is press fitted into worn now ..(one and done) ???
Please advised me how to properly correct this problem with 944S2 DIY methods.
Thanks All !!

You only get a couple of those boil overs before you damage the engine.
Sounds like the air bleed plug/bolt is stripped out of the elbow for the top coolent hose connection. Uses a 12 mm socket/wrench?
Might be able to tap it to the next american size and use a bolt with a copper washer to get it to seal.
You most likely will have to order both the bleeder bolt and the elbow from a dealer or possibly match it to one at a good Porsche recycling yard.
When was the last time the chain tensioner was inspected or the timing belt replaced?

The bleeder bolt is about 3$ and I believe it's 13mm. I don't think our cars use a 12mm atleast much anyways. If you have to replace the elbow just flush the system and then fill up with new coolant after you installed it. Then bleed the system with your new bleeder valve bolt.

FWIW, the bleeder bolt on my car is 12mm. I replaced the elbow that connects the head and upper rad hose about a year ago and the old bolt and a 2nd spare I have are all that size.

Pete, It looks great !!!
Seems like that air bleed plug/bolt is stripped out of the elbow for the top coolant hose connection for some bloody reason..??
My 944S2 is an 1989 if this helps any..
I hope I understand your arrows ..thanks ..
It looks like the Blue arrow is pointing towards the fitting w/ the larger hose. This hose is not popping off on my car. There is only one of these fittings and two of the other type.
The fitting is pressed into the aluminium assy ..
If the the Red Arrow is pointing to the small fittings , there are two of them , and the one on the left is popping out with the hose still attached.
On eiether side of the larger hose (Blue Arrow)
What to do now ..??

Ok, all those lines are connected to the throttle body. I just went out and looked at mine. If that plastic connector isn't broken you may be able to use an epoxy to keep it in place. If not you will probably have to find another throttle body.
Oh, that isn't the bleeder bolt. The bleeder bolt is on the top front of the motor just in front of the intake manifold. The green arrow is pointing to it in this pic.

I have the same issue, jb weld isn't holding it well, so I keep trying to clean the parts better each time I try to glue it, this time I think I'll be brushing off the black coating off the fitting. The fitting may actually be metal rather than plastic. But has anyone done a different fix? I'm not opting to bypass the line as I prefer everything stock and keep things as intended. Thanks

That is a coolant line to heat the throttle body so it doesn't ice over/get stuck in frozen climates.
Not really needed for most of the USA...where are you?
Bypassing it "until you can fix it" just takes a double-ended hose connector.

The next revision on the vario motor uses straight fittings. For piece of mind, I would tap your existing housing for a threaded type straight fitting and use the hose set for the 968 motor.
Check the PET for the o-rings required.

Thankyou V2Rocket- I'm aware of the temporary fix.
thomasmryan: Thanks so much for the insight, it seems as the part was updated with a fix. That's good news indeed. Now if I could somehow sell my existing one to pay for the upgrade.....hmmm
