tifo, if you insert the jack into the rear wheel well, then slide it back and pull it into the jack point, it should be good. thats what i have to do jack up the passenger side of my car when its on my driveway, which is on an angle, so its lower on that side when parked there.

Thanks for that link. I have one set of cotter-pinned jack stands and have not been able to find another. I'm sure the others are fine, but I never feel comfortable getting under a car with those toothed racket things....

On that topic, has anyone heard of jack stands failing? Do you guys trust the cheap Wal-mart brand ones as much as the expensive, $50-75 a stand AC types? I am thinking about investing in some AC stands as they have the cotter pins which would be more reliable. Do you guys think I would be wasting my money?

"I found out last nite that my big-azz Craftsman jack will no longer slide underneath the car. Does anyone here recommend a particular jack with a low stack height?"

I just off the cup on top of the jack. That shaves off about 3/4" from the height of the jack and I can put the little adaptor-cup-thingamajiggy on top of it and line it up with the hole on the body. I still have to go in through the wheelwell opening like Eyal says, but it is low enough to clear once underneath.

Tom-

Where did you find the other cotter pin style jack stands? The AC stands are awfully expensive, although I have no problem biting the bullet for my safety.
