What are your thoughts on timing belt shelf life? I am selling a collection of new old stock 944 parts, among which I have genuine Porsche 944S2 timing and balance shaft belt and a Conti OEM balance shaft bellt.. Therse are new in the box and have been stored inside in a climate-controlled room (ie no exposure to heat or light), but are 12 years old.
My question is what is the shelf life of belts and are these still of any use to anyone? I no longer have the car, but if i did I don't think i would use them on my own car, but I can't find anything definitive in the literature about the shelf llfe?

I would think the guidelines would be comparable to those for tires, which would mean that after 10 years, they become interesting historical artifacts.

 

Sell them to your ex wife.

 

Funnily enough my ex-wife kept the S2 and I kept all the timing belt parts. Tick tock.......
