Default Are you into switch rebuilding??

Being inherently cheap.. I choose to rebuild my switches instead of replacing them . I'm currently into the Light switch.
I have just done a quick webpage with all the pics..
Intermittent, bad position locations and bad dimmer response have all been fixed.

Here's the write up..

next - window switches.. again!

I always rebuild my switches, I have already gone through the the power window switches and the sunroof switch on the 944. I also rebuilt the starter solenoid in the motorcycle (it was not fun having to rewind almost half a mile of wire). I guess that I do it because I can and because I don't have to wait for parts to be delivered.

I used to rebuild anything I could on my car, motorcycle, hair dryer, whatever I could open. As I've gotten older and lazier I buy new or used...although I still install it myself!

Chris,

Your writeup didn't mention what products you used to clean the metal surfaces.

I take it as a personal challenge to fix it myself first. I've done pretty good with most of the electrical switches on the car but the seat switch kicked my butt trying to get the contacts cleaned and the switch back together again. Not to give up yet, I'm now trying to build a frankenstein switch from alternate parts for the seat. I hate spending $45 for a lousy switch.

Hey Kevin..
I use 400 grit wetsand (dry of course) (1/4" x 1/4") and a small sharp blade screwdriver to get out the BURNED ON plastic bits. A new razor blade made the bottom of the plug (actually the top.. ) to make a flat surface for the switch to slide on. The ball bearing in the hole is the toughest part.

Let me know when you're rebuilt the turn signal switch. Then I'll be impressed.
