Default which porsches had dry sump?

i understand that the new 996 GT3 has true dry sump lubrication, and that the 996 carreras have some sort of integrated dry sump system, though, not true dry sump.

what other porsche models have/had dry sump lubrication?

Aircooled 911's like others have said and 996 GT3, GT2, GT1, TT and Carrera GT. Not sure about the 914 and 912. 924/944/968 definetely not.

Why is the standard 996/boxster motor not a "true" dry sump? I've read it and known it, but have no idea what makes it not a "true" dry sump.

All Air Cooled 911's = Dry Sump.
928, 944, 924, 968, 951, Boxster, 996 = Wet Sump
GT3 Mk1, GT3 Mk2, 996 TT, GT2, Carrera GT = Dry Sump

The new boxsters and 996 have wet sumps no mater what Porsche calls them.

Wet sump = Bulk of the oil resides in the oil pan under the engine
Advantages = Cheaper (no/few savenge pumps)

Dry Sump = Bulk of oil in an oil tank seperated from the engine. Minimal oil the oil pan
Advtanages =
Maintians oil pressure in all g-loading conditions.
Less drag due to crank weights not sloshing in oil.
Less chance for air generating in the oil due to crank not wipping in around.
Can lower the position of the engine in the car since oil tank size is minimal.
