Default Lost key to wheel locks...

What are my options now? I don't immediately need to get the wheels off, but would liek to be able to. I also don't have the little plate with the key codes on it either. What are the chances of the dealer being able to help? what are my other options, or am I just screwed?

Not sure if the dealer can track it down by VIN or not. Locksmith? Drill out the lock?

I would drill out the locks--the lug behind the covers are hollow, so you wont damage them. use an 5/32 or #11 bit.

Rake the locks, it's very easy. I took a piece of cardboard and wedged it into the lugnut hole to keep the cover from spinning, then raked the lock with a couple of jewler's screwdrivers (the kind you can get a cheap set of from the dollar store.) I'm not good with locks but had mine off in a few minutes. One screwdriver to provide some turning pressure, the other to bounce the tumblers. They popped easily.

Looks like either method is ok. If you can pick them, there will be no damage. On the other hand, it'll probably cost more to have a key made than buy a new set, so the locks are worthless.

Also, you can buy a set of sockets that fit over the locks and twist them off.

A key is pretty cheap if you can find a match at a club meeting or something like that. There doesn't seem to be many patterns. You could find an owner whose key fit and get him to copy his key. I had a spare made for my car for $3 or so.

As for these locking covers twisting off, that may not work as it does on McGuard and similar wheel locks, and would trash the cover anyway, so you might as well drill.

very easy, i did a couple before. Take an oversized socket like a 22mm and put it onto the lock, one that fits just to tight to go over it. Smack it with a hammer. Loosen. Drop it on the ground and it should pop back out.

Iv used the bang on socket method with success, but you may be sacrificing the socket, so dont use a good one.

I had the same problem and popped them with a socket. I replaced with regular lug nuts. Figured a thief could get them off just as easy.

Do people still steal tires? They'd probably steal the whole car anyway.

Good luck.

Okie dokie. Here we go again.

Tools needed:

(1) Hammer (average size will do)
(1) Cold chisel
(1) Pair safety glasses
(1) Cold beer (preferably Shiner Bock, but you can make due with others)

Steps:

1) Put on safety glasses

2) Pop cap off lock

3) Place pointy end of cold chisel in the groove the cap snaps onto

4) Rap end of chisel sharply with hammer (oh, and duck)

5) Remove sleeve over lug nut

6) Repeat 3 more times

7) Drink beer

Not counting step 7, this should take less than 4 mnutes total.

If you drill the locks out, you can still use them. Just slide them on (without the lock part) and pop on the plastic caps. Nobody can tell there is no lock! I have driven for thousands of miles with mine like that, and they have never fallen off. Sure, you loose a little security, but then again, if they are popping off the plastic dust caps they probably have the tools to remove the lock anyway.

I think wheel locks are very '80's! When was the last time you saw a 944 on blocks with the wheels stolen??
