so far we tried every kind of penetrating oil i have, and this....

this is a big mack wratchet with a rope tied to it.

this is my cousin and me pulling on it as hard as we can.


we ended up breaking one of my ratchets on this thing. the one on the other side was pretty easy.

any ideas?

When it gets that hard to crank it, either get a longer handle (i.e. a piece of pipe to slide over the handle), or better yet since you'll need one sooner or later, and electric impact wrench ($39.99 at Pep Boys).

 

That rope isn't giving you any more torque. You're still applying the same amount pretty much, maybe even less since the rope is at an angle so not all of the force is perpendicular to the handle. You need to get that wrench at a better angle and slip a pipe over it. Or better yet, get the right tool for the job, a breaker bar. Still may need the "helper pipe" though.

 

More Leverage!!

If even that doesn't work...position a jack stand under the wrench (when the wrench is more horizontal that how you show it pictured) and SLOWLY & GENTLY lower the car onto the jack stand (or something else thats solid)...

I've had 0 luck with the cheaper impact guns. The only one I had any luck with was a $200 craftsman impact that I returned after I used it for its sole purpose -- to remove the big bolt for the crank pulleys with no way to hold the crank steady (flywheel removed). With that said, I've never tried an electric but I wouldn't expect it to have the necessary torque.

 

You need 2 things:

A longer breaker bar and bigger hammer.

DeWalt makes an electric impact gun that hits at 250 lb./ft. It hits harder than some air guns I've used and is only ~$170 at Home Depot.

 

well i dont wanna spend 170$ on something to break one bolt loose. Im gonna try the jack thing. then a long bar.

 

I agree with others, Get a breaker bar! The biggest one you can find, and if this is all you use it for just take it back....

just get a big breaker bar, if it there is interferece, and you can't use it, jack the back of the car up, place a jack stand underneath the wrench, and lower the car. The car's weight should be able to get the nut loosened. Make sure to do it slow, so nothing breaks.

The jack thing sounds a little too dangerous for me. All you need is a longer breaker bar and a sledgehammer. When all else fails, get a bigger hammer.

 

Heat with a torch then use an impact gun. Find a mechanic with an Ingersoll Rand 2135TI gun and borrow it from him (delivers 1000 ftlbs for about seven seconds). About $229 to $269 to buy the gun. It will then come loose!

 

A long cheater bar will do. Put a pipe over it and turn it will loosen up a bit. Then you can do the rest.

When I was undoing the driveshaft-transmission coupler bolts, even with 2 foot breaker bar I couldn't budge the bolts. We slipped a 6 foot pipe over the end of the bar, and had almost zero resitance breaking the bolt loose.

 

The jack thing works. The weight of the car will break the bolt loose. Just let it down s-l-o-w-l-y.
