Torque value on those nuts is 180 ft lbs. As was said, that strap that you used is entirely worthless. You need to get more leverage on the ratchet, and you'll probably need a larger ratchet after you break the one that's on there. Some heat with a torch (propane or acetalyne) would help as well.

Filled with sand? I agree with the people who recommend a high quality closed-end wrench and hammer.

You just haven't hit it hard enough yet.

The problem with a socket is that it's offset, and you can't impact them. A breaker bar would be better, but a wrench is best.

1/2 inch drive, extension to outside the quarter, bar, pipe and JACKSTAND - use jackstand as fulcrum immediately before the ratchet - adjust to proper height.


Or a torch if you have one.

Impact wrench air or electric buy one, rent one, I will let you borrow mine and you will have that thing loose in a matter of seconds.

Slide a pipe over a 24" breaker bar (more leverage). Place the socket on the nut(?) in such a way that the handle in parallel to the ground then jump up and down on it. You will either make it come loose or break the head off trying.
As for your wratchet breaking, well buy better ones (Craftsman or Snap-On) with a lifetime guarantee.

A 24" bar parallel to the ground will run back up under the body of the car and you can not get to it to jump on.

PB blaster is almost a great an invention as duct tape is. The stuff is awesome.
Q? Too much torque on a rusted in bolt will shear the bolt- even a hardened one- correct?
liberally soak with PB. Heat cycle with a torch. pb blaster soak for a day or so. should work right out.

This sounds reminiscient for me as well.

this is a nut, not a head of a bolt right? yous houldn't be ablet o break the bolt with the nut with a bolt that thick, i dont thinks.

he is taking off a nut (by turning the nut) not turning the head of teh bolt.

Maybe i read it wrong. but peopel were saying you would sheer the head of the bolt off. how would you do this turning the nut? and with this big of a bolt and nut, i doubt that unless there is significant rust (which at least on mine, there isnt in this area) the bolt would shear before the nut comes loose.
