Question How to dispose of used CV joints?

Dumb question, perhaps, but after replacing all four CV joints on the 83, I cleaned up my old ones last night with degreaser and maybe it's just me, but I'd feel very unecological by just dumping them in the trash.

What do you guys do with used solid metal parts like worn CVs? Any recyclers that would take them?

TIA

Some auto parts stores should take them. They usually go out with the cores.

Used solid metal parts - like brake rotors? Trash can. They biodegrade faster than styrofoam does.

Well some people make paper weights and neat stuff like that out of the old used parts. I know I have a set of bent 951 intake valves on my desk.

Take them to a parts store and ask them to be returned with the cores. If all processes are followed, your cores should make it back to a metal recycler where they will be chopped into small bits and sorted by type.

I have a friend that worked for a very large metal yard in NJ where they take massive shipments of used parts from Belkin, Napa, Dana, and BorgWarner. Engine blocks, rear ends, rotors, anything metal that has no more service life gets tossed into a massive shredder. It spits out dime sized chunks of metal into hoppers that start the sorting process. After that, the sorted chunks go off to metal recyclers in PA and northern NY to be melted and re-used.

They grind up whole cars there too.... kinda cool.. kinda creepy too!

You could put it on evilBay for some unsuspecting soul -- but then that would be evil.

I take mine to the local dump and they have a metal pile to throw crap like that in.

Oh man, clean them all up (The CV joints only, shafts are boing) and use one as a paper weight - they are cool to play with. The ***** are also neat.

I dunno, I just like that sort of thing . . .

I pile it into one of the cars going to the scrap metal processor.... they pay $45/ton but you are going to need lots of CVs to make it worth your while...

If you take one apart you find: 1 center race: great paper weight, 1 outer race: even greater paper weight, some *****: just pass them on to one of the guys above, they seem to like them (SEB & MY YOU WERE ASKING...) or start collecting them till you can make a game called solitaire out of it.
For the cages still on the table: pile 2 of them up and tag weld them together. Use bent valve as stem and you have a candle.
