Battery
The PO bought a battery at Wal-Mart and it doesn't quite fit the dimensions. It's a little high. I've tried taking it back to Wal-Mart, but they claim to NOT have the right battery available at all. I think that's BS, it has to be made by someone, somewhere. BTW-the reason I'm even still dealing with Wal-Mart is because they are willing to take this battery back and credit towards a new one.

I'm amazed they'd take it back, epecially when you didn't buy it.
They will only order from their suppliers, they're not going to make a special order for you. Get the correct dimensions of our battery and take the closest thing they have. If that won't work, get a friend a battery!
How high is it? Is it touching the hood or something?

For our cars a BIC Group 41 battery will work just fine and this should be a fairly common battery even for Wal-Mart. A Group 40R will also work though is a bit shorter in length than the 41. Either should work fine for you.

Are all 44s the same? I had to get a new battery last week, IIRC the one that's been in there was a group 48, I remembered tha someone had mentioned a group 41 (yellowtop) but when I looked at one there was NO WAY that thing was going to fit (an inch taller) or a 42 (couple inches longer. Looking it up in the book, my '86 was listed as taking the group 48 (just like what was in there). I looked at the other batteries in the rack and went down a size to a group 47, same width and height but an inch and a half less length and 7 lbs lighter (590 CCA vs. 700), evidently, the group 47 is primarily used in BMWs, close enough!
