Default Can I Replace My Porsche Engine With A V-8?

Is there a problem in doing this? Has anybody done It? Will my current transmission handle it? How much can I get for my '91 S2 engine that has only 41,000 mi. and running great? Please don't ask WHY I would do this.

Only if it can be done and approximate cost. I realize most of you wouldn't make this change, but if I want to, what are the problems I would be facing. No, I won't do this myself. I would have to have it done by a qualified mechanic. Thanks!

You're a brave man. Not for considering the conversion, but for asking for tips on how to do it on the Rennlist site. Beware of the flame!

Go nuts and drop in a V10 Dodge motor. That'll get you moving pretty good.

Hey now, don't flame this guy!

Now I would never be caught dead doing this to a car that has nothing wrong with it, but if I had a basket case car sitting around, I would really consider doing it. You can build a hell of a small block chevy engine for not that much money these days. Take a car that would normally be headed for the crusher and make a unique and powerful machine out of it!!

Plus - it's a 91 - If I remember correctly, that's the last year of the 944 + it's a cab. Of well, to each their own. Good luck man.

1. If your S2 engine is in great shape, why?
2. If you go thru with it, PM me with what you are looking to get from the complete S2 engine, DME, and harness.

Hey,
Should I offer to trade my LT1 motor with 36k for his S2 motor.

If I did that conversion I would have a perfect 50/50 weight distribution, changing the plugs should then be a piece of cake. I could stand in the engine compartment and work.

i could get anderson to build me a supercharger to get the same HP the LT1 has...

Question is would I be allowed to take it to a PCA DE?

Haha Tifo...
Sorry, but we have to ask WHY you are doing this...why would you EVER remove a 41k mile S2 motor if it's good???? MAN, don't wreck a perfectly good cab....screw "to each his own"... DON'T DO IT!
To do a "nice" V8 conversion requires ALOT of time and money...I must assume your S2 is in good shape for its mileage, so wouldn't you want the engine bay to reflect that too? You're not about to throw some smelly old Corvette engine into a clean car...just buy a cheap 944 NA bound for destruction, gut it and make it your own...
If you remove the S2 engine from that car, the value of it will drop dramatically, no matter what you put in there, as someone has mentioned its the last year for the 944's.

No, the rest of the existing car is too heavy for that wimpy S2 engine. You need that extra HP that you already have.......

Joe,

My only advice would be that you take a long roadtrip in the S2 cab this spring in good company before deciding whether or not to do this. Be sure to get some high speed runs with the top down.

You may change your mind.

Yeah - I've got a 95 Z-28 that's for sale - it weighs about as much as my neighbors Excursion!
