And the top down you say?? I'd love the top down with a 350 hp LT1 singing away.

With that said, I'd only do this if my engine was kaput or the car was salvaged.

Gosh that would be fun.

bigbass, as many people on here will tell you, these car's strength is not off the line, it's in the handling. Regardless of what maintenance you will have to do, you are still spending 10-12k on a good conversion....how are you saving money then?
Just enjoy the car as it is. You can go ahead and modify the car as-is, with an exhaust and suspension and brakes, and maybe some internal engine changes to increase your horsepower, and you'll have a great car, and you still won't have spent as much as for a conversion. But if you want speed off the line, sell the S2 to a rennlister (like myself), go and buy a Camaro and have fun. Not trying to sound disrespectful, just honest.

You haven't offended me

I'm with others who say, "If it's not broken, don't fix it". You have a low mileage 944 cab...which I think is something to treasure.

I've would love to try the "V8" swap but only on a car where doing the conversion would be saving the car. You have a special car which I think you should maintain, drive and enjoy it exactly as it is. Maintenance isn't that bad...after all, you have Rennlist to guide you

I just get all giddy inside when I think of my buddy's 403 rwhp 12.1 sec LT1 Camaro in my 2800 lbs 944.

Alas, financially speaking, it was more prudent to put the 968 engine in Argento, which will still be alot of fun, in a very different way.

I suppose if everyone wanted an LT-1 car they'd just buy a Vette. Damn, put me on the list of "purists" I guess - I just can't see putting a Chevy motor in a Porsche - a Fiero, yes. I've got an LT-1 car (Z28) right out in the garage, but it belongs in a different class of cars in my opinion.

Something to note: I'm not a racer. I bought my Porsche as a weekend driver/cruiser, but not to track or street race. The thought of putting a Chevy motor in a Porsche makes me want to barf!

Put a Supercharger with some low boost and you could beat a lot of the newer cars that are out. The conversion will cost way less than a Chevy conversion. Chevy conversions are awesome when done right. There is a serious 944 conversion car in Baton Rouge. I'm not sure if he gets on the rennlist or not..

I would not convert a car that is in mint condition unless the motor **** canned and broke valves, pistons etc.. then I would convert. I have never been in a converted 944 however have been in the Swamp Monster 911V8 several times. The car is so fast it feels like it is making your feet come off the floor board under hard acceleration. By far the quickest car I have ever been in. You can do a lot with a SBC, for about 6k you can build a good reliable streetable 425hp and the thing will last too. I'm not sure what the weight difference is compared to a 944 engine, however the SBC w/aluminum heads in the Swamp Monster is 100lbs less than the 2.7 6 that came out of it.

Predator has a beautiful car and may be able to answer a lot of questions.

Either way good luck!

For every Porsche V-8 conversion, Ferdinand Porsche turns over once in his grave. Poor guy.

Whatever.

Given enough money, I would bastardize the heck out of any 944 within reason, to build an unbeatable car, on the drag or on the track, period.

But how does everyone REALLY feel? (jk - don't answer that)

Indeed it is, we were just training in Saudi at the time. I have to wear it when I go to off topic because it has become a MOP3 area at minimum due to all of the toxic BS....

And he wouldn't for Porsche making a SUV?!?!?!?!

Granted the Cayenne is an awesome machine, but it's more heretical than a V8 converted 944 imo.

I don't know about that. I think he would appreciate any that were done well and surely he would be impressed with the performance. You never know.

Matt-

I'm just playin' man - it really makes no difference to me - it's not my car. I'm a bit more on the casual driver side vs. racing, so I prefer the stock cars. It just seems like everyone has been running around for the past few years saying "what small car can I stuff an LT-1 into." In my opinion, of all cars to toss a SBC into, a Porsche (any model) would probably be my last choice.

I must admit my surprise though - considering that you're a Rennlist
Lifetime Member - you'd bastardize any 944 within reason?
