You can always put VVT chain tensioner in there to compensate shorter runners. It's on/off type so it's easy to control with any aftermarket ecu. It can be tweaked even with oem ecu which supports that feature. I had same kind of manifold arrangement but decided to ditch it because with that setup it was impossible to remove oil filter from the engine bay. Here's a picture of my waterpump arrangement and this is how I cleaned inside of the exhaust manifold primaries

He's still got plenty of runner length to make it a usable friendly engine.
The biggest liability overall will be the 1.8L displacement when off boost but with careful throttle and decent gearing it'll be OK.

While there's definite gains to be found with runner-length tuning "magic" the internet is inclined to way overthink things in pursuit of "engineering perfection".
Sort of apples/oranges but here's a dyno of an LT1 V8 from the 90s...about 8" from plenum to valve seat.

Nice work Van!
I had thought about doing something similar with the 951 manifold, but the S-bends won't make it practical.

Sorry I've been absent here! We're still in the moving process, still setting up the shop.
Haven't touched my project for 6 mo now, but should be back on it in another mo or so.
I used this for an exhaust man:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/VW-VAG-Audi...53.m1438.l2649
Need to mount the turbo with the exh out facing front tho.
Used a Davies, Craig H2O pump with PWM controller.
Good luck on the swap!

I was just looking back at your thread, but I don't see what you mean about your placement of the turbo... could you post some more pics?

It looks very legit - I've been on their waitlist for 18 months... with the free-time I've had at home because of the coronavirus, I started making my own.

Due to the shape of the 'snail', the turbo would interfere with the fender. Mounting it exhaust to the front tucks the turbo closer to the block. If they made a reverse rotation GT2871 it would fit with the exhaust to the rear.
Found a nice thick wall, tight radius stainless elbow on ebay, made it super easy to run the exhaust to the center of the tunnel.
I used an integral wastegate to simplify the plumbing. Had to make a custom actuator bracket for frame rail clearance, but everything tucked in pretty neatly.
Itching to get back on the project. Moving took priority, but I did take the time to make it run and drive before we left.
New house needs a lot of work still, but squeezing in time to set the shop up as I can. Should be putting epoxy on the floor tomorrow.
Good luck with your swap, it's a whole lot of work.

I did a few little "chores" over the weekend.

Next on my list is to modify the oil pan while I await for some prototype parts.

Nice work, that looks awesome!
And thanks for taking the time to document what you're doing and explaining it. I am sure it ads a fair amount of time to whatever you're doing, it's certainly appreciated.
