Default 944 NA - cheap options for replacing fuel pressure damper??

I am fixing up an ‘84 944 and need a new damper. I looked online and saw that Bosch doesn’t make them anymore and the only “cheap” option is a Standard for 150.... anyone know of any other option? Should I go scrap hunting maybe or what? Any ideas would be much appreciated thanks!

Check with user Plyhammer, I just got a good used one from him last fall for cheap. If you're only worried about function, I wouldn't worry about finding a new one. They don't often go bad.

The early ones are the cheap ones. For my later model the best I was able to do was about $300.00.

You can run without one, I did last year with no ill effects. little more noise in the cabin. I'm looking at an off rail aftermarket one for this season.

This really isn't good advise, there are certainly "ill effects", its just you where lucky you didn't experience them.

The 944 doesn't have sequential fuel injection like the 968 on which the damper was deleted. The 944 batch fired injectors pulse much harder than sequential systems so the damper is needed to provide a reliable and constant flow. H.F.B described perfectly the issue that can occur in another post a while back: "The damper acts also as a sort of accumulator. So when you slam the throttle open, without the damper the fuel rail pressure regulator won't keep up with the manifold pressure changes and can’t keep the required fuel pressure. So your engine could run lean under acceleration."

I was aware of this, and rolled the dice i guess... Had it to a few DE events... Like I said, I plan on installing the Radium damper this season... engine is not modified in any way so maybe the pump kept up with the demand ok...

most EFI up into the mid 90s was batch fire, not sequential, and most of those cars did not come with a damper, FWIW.

it IS a very useful item to have to get more fine-tuned injector function though.

interestingly enough in more modern stuff (mostly japanese) they add a damper somewhere even WITH sequential injection.

Good point Spencer but I still doubt Porsche would fit something if it wasn’t really needed, the engineers must have seen something that would warrant spending money to rectify by using a damper.

Default Almost $700 to replace the fuel pressure damper!!!

Found fuel in my vacc line after I broke off. It immediately ran better when I started it up but unfortunately gas is flowing out of this thing so it’s toast. Where can I find this $150 option the gentleman mentioned previously? Any other suggestions are much appreciated. 🤙 I’m also located in Newport Beach, Ca. Here’s a picture of the 944 does anyone have any info on the wheels? One of wheels ate the curb and did some damage to the outside lip by where the bead sits against the rim, I’ve seen way worse so I know it can be fixed. Im afraid if I tell him it’s from a Porsche he will add $350 to the price. My clutch is pulling to the floor so I’m about to put it up and check the slave. Master has been replaced so I’m thinking they did both. We’ll see.

First bath

Idk if u can see it or not but that back wheel is where the rim ate a curb I think. I bought it with the rim damage, because I know it’s worth fixing.

Those look like standard BBS mesh wheels. Guessing 15x8 on your car.
If needed I sold a set of 15x8 BBS to Tim Comeau down in San Diego recently.
If you don't know him already, you should look him up...944 specialist.

Default 944 NA FPD

That wheel is fixable, but probably needs to be done by a class-A shop . Is the defect just on one lip or both? Considering the cost of a replacement wheel, the repair costs and rebalancing should be abou1/4-1/3 the cost of a new wheel. My two cents.😀!

so The car had some front end damage I passenger side and I think they rotated the wheels and put the damaged rim in the rear but the car is not very stable above 80mph, also looks like he knocked one of the metal weights off on the process so def need rebalancing. Are these wheels from Porsche or after market?
