Default help getting sticker off...

Well when i got my car it had a 1'' by 2'' sticker on the back opposite the 944 badge advertising the car lot the 2nd owner bought the car from. What should i do to get this off?? Will it look perfect to just take it off with my fingernail then use a rubbing compound to get any residue off? I do not want to miscolor my paint because it is beautiful paint!

If you can peel most of it off and buff off the rest it should not discolor the paint. The only way it would discolor the paint, is if the paint under the sticker did not faid the same as the area around it or did something else odd to the paint (i doubt it).

Paint usually does change color a little bit (though hard to recognize). If you can get this sticker off without it damaging the paint (ie: chipping it, scratching it), the paint should not change color. If it leaves that gunky stuff behind, using a paint cleaning compound should not ruin anything as it is meant to get that stuff off. You might try some sort of tar-remover as well.

Soak it with PB Blaster or WD40, let it sit for a bit, peel off and wipe up residue....

Try one of those big eraser things that goes on a drill. I used one of those to remove the adhesive left behind when I pull off the trim down the side of the car and also to remove the faded "924S" decal on the back of the car. It worked very well. A little scary to use at first, but didn't damage the (washed thoroughly first) paint at all. Eastwood sells them.

wd-40 is bad for paint. dont do it. i would use rubbing compound, or a heat gun, or what not. dont use anything thats not meant for car paint. wd-40 will burn the paint, cause it to get stains on the paint, just like if you splashed gas on paint...

if the paint around the sticker is faded, simple.. use rubbing compound or polish to bring it back. you may need to use alot of elbow grease, or even a buffer (to save energy if youre lazy like me), but it will bring the paint back around it.

to get stickers off glass.. use a razor blade and some soapy water (ie-dawn dish soap), and be very careful. use the blade (make sure its sharp!), to slide underneath the sticker. dont touch the sharp part to glass... just do it like your skinning it or somthing.. very careful, very gently and very slowly. just get under one corner, and keep going.

if you have a lil goo/adheasive residue from the sticker still left on the window, take some vinegar and newspaper, that will clean the **** right up. if its still really bad try the razor blade again to get most of it up and then finish it with vinegar and newspaper.

Just get some spraypaint, spray the whole car over including over the stucker, and you got yourself a new paintjob! :P

no prob! and the vinegar & newspaper trick on glass.. IT REALLY DOES WORK!!!

i was cleaning the gloass lenses on the headlights i restored and someone suggested i do that to clean it, with out alot of smeary chemicals (ie windex). i thought they were nuts, but i figured what the heck, and it worked amazingly. just use clean white vinegar, newspaper, and then rinse it off with some water when youre done.

I second the rubber eraser. Body shops use them all the time to remove pin stripes.

I used it to remove some serious adhesive the last body shop used to hold my 944 emblem on. Worked great and safe.

I remove stickers every day at my job (graphic artist)....use a heat gun or at least a good hair dryer....warm it up real good (not too much or you could burn it)....then use a razor blade or exacto knife to gently pick up (lift)a corner or edge enough to grab it with your fingers....start pulling gently as not to tear it...try to get it all in one piece...if you don't, just heat again and be paitient....to remove the adhesive residue use some mineral spirits (not paint remover or WD 40)....you can then use some polishing compund to finish....should work for you.......one little trick is to lift the corner with exacto knife enough to place a finger on it (sticker is between finger and knife)...like using the knife and finger to lift it more (gently)
