Default Atlanta folk: OEM Downpipe and Cat needed

I need to get my 951 to pass emissions very soon... so I am gonna go the easy way out. I'm looking to buy an OEM downpipe and GOOD factory cat. Anyone have one in storage... or a suggestion of a dismantler in ATL?

TIA!

Perhaps somebody can just loan you one for the day so you can pass?

I'll be very suprized if your car passes either way. Gerogia emmisions are some of the worst in the nation.

It will pass.. I passed HC and CO content WITHOUT a cat in Ohio... and from what I can tell.. our emissions limits are about the same. (and also do the same rolling test)

I was about 10% high on NOX, again, with no cat.

As an fyi -
My 1990 C4 failed the first attempt in January, after I recently moved down here. It didn't have a cat, so I had bought a VGC used one from the Rennlist Classifieds for $50 and had it installed, along with a new O2 sensor (which was recommended by the independent shop that I now support. It used to pass in Mass without the cat. In Mass, I think I got a break because of the AWD, and their test was not accurate bc they could not dyno the car. The mechanic at the NAPA (read: no Porsche experience) shop told me that the test for AWD cars in GA is much stricter bc they can't do the dyno test...
My 944 passed right away (in both MA and GA) with a SFR exhaust and high-flow cat (sourced from SFR, but I forget the actual brand)

Or you can cheat (like me) and register the car in another county.... I just didn't want to bother with the emmisions crap.

There are several places to look. Why do you need the stock down pipe? Why not just get a generic cat that is large enough for your car; weld on the correct mounting plates and run with it? The emissions here are run on a dyno. You have to find a shop that: 1) Knows how to drive a stick. (I came accross a couple that couldn't. I left in a hurry.) 2) Can run a quick check on a 4 gas machine. The testing equipment will not allow for just a quick check.

If your car looks like it has been modded, the authorities will soon be able to do a field check. (Atl air is getting worse by the day.)

Brian:

Email Jay at jjlgray@mindspring.com. He parted an '86 951 not long ago and may have what you need. It had around 80k miles. Tell him I sent you.

Ian and Billy - If I cannot find one, we'll try and work something out.

David - Thanks for the offer.... I want one to keep.

James - I had a Random Tech High Flow 2-way for it. (HC and CO). I ordered it thinking that I was going to be high on HC content, but ended up high on NOx. When I found out that I was 70ppm below the HC limit with no cat, I sent it back. I want the OEM one so the yearly swap is quick, easy, cheap, and functional as stock. (the factory converter is 3 way)

Keith - I'll e-mail shortly, thanks!

Perry,
If you want one to borrow I have one that you can "borrow" indefinitely. I just intend to cut the cat out of it at some point and make my own cheap test pipe. I do not know when I will do this though sometime between 4months and 4years from now.

Cool,
I just looked and my cat is actually at my parents place in augusta a little less than 2 hours away. Also I am going to be in Miami for spring break next week. Soooo if you need it in a hurry you are welcome to go to augusta to pick it up, but that is a pain. If you don't mind waiting a bit, then I can pick it up for you some time. Sorry for the double talk I just skimmed your post the first time but looking back you said you need it very soon. Also the cat has a 130k on it. I was told it is still good but you know how that is. :b

Like I said if this can still help you out in any way I'm all for it. I just wanted to think it through more before I got your hopes to far up.

Let me know,
John

P.S. I PM'd you with my cell number feel free to call me.
