How the hell do I use that spring compressor?!?! I attach the claws to the spring and compress but it never goes far enough on my Conquest head to let me pull out retainers and locks and such..any tips?

Those are tough because you can't get them down far enough to grab the bottom of the coil-spring. What some people have done is loaded up their combustion-cambers with rope to hold the valve shut. Like feed in the rope at about 45-degrees BTDC, fill it with rope, then compress it by turning up the crank to TDC. Then hold a 20mm socket over the spring retainer and smack it with a rubber mallet. A lot of times, it'll unlock the retainers and you end up with the two keepers inside the socket.

That spring compressor is for an over head valve engine, your Conquest is an over head cam engine.

Try a 'c' clamp type compressor if the head is off. I thinks those are for GM/Ford type engines.

Agh, thanks for all the help guys...I managed to find a way to use it

I ask Autozone for a spring compressor to borrow and they said thats teh only kind the guy so I took it...
