Default Lightweight carpet DIY?

Id like to get rid of the old factory carpet, and I alreadly got rid of the rear seat upper. Also wanted to change from the "cashmere" (which looks yellow to me) to black.

I picked up some light weight carpet that was in the discount bin from the local auto upholstery supplier. Now I just need to figure out how to fit it!

has anyone done this before?

yes i used a felt-like "trunk liner" type thin black carpet on mine.
the 944 floor pan is pretty easy to cut/fit/glue to.
i did it in 4 pieces, driver front, driver rear, pass front, pass rear pieces on the floor and the seam meets under the seat.
the tunnel i did as a separate, single piece and the seam is at the intersection of the floor and tunnel "corner"

take your time and make sure you have plenty of ventilation if using spray glue (3M 77 or 3M 90 in a spray can)

If the carpet is "lightweight" because the backing is thin, then you will need a nice flat surface to apply it to or it will look lumpy. Here is how I approached it on my 944R.

Also, in the thread I linked to above, post #62 has a link to the PDF I created for the carpet kit.
Here it is again, http://www.revline.se/diverse/951RS_...eat_Delete.pdf

Wow! Thanks for documenting all that amazing work. Did you have an upholstery shop do the edging, or is that kit available?

I sent AppBiz that PDF and we worked together developing their kit for the 944/951 shipping pieces back and fourth across the country over a few winter months some 10 years ago. Ultimately, I also ended up doing a couple final pieces myself with a local seamstress that were giving us trouble. I asked someone at my local JoAnn Fabric if they knew of anyone who could help me out and the women offered her services, worked great.
AppBiz did supply me with the additional felt carpet and seaming material and they did a great job with 95% of the pieces but the piece over and around the dead pedal was a challenge, the rear half over the central hump wasn't quite right and IIRC the piece over the fuel filler tube at the side of the rear hatch needed to be remade. Very happy with the results and still looks great today.

Apologies for dredging up an old thread - the pdf link appears to be dead, is there any chance any members that have it are able to send it to me?

Cheers
