Bare Block Weight Contest
I just put my bare 968 block on my bathroom scale. It is completely stripped -- no head, no piston, no rods, no crank, no girdle, no balance shafts or housings -- just the block (with studs).
I also weighed the 968 crank (stock). And the girdle.
Let's here your guestimates. The weights surprised me a little.

wow i hope you brought the scale outside lol and didn't actually do it in yer bathroom. lol just messin i wouldn't have thought the crank weighed as much as the block either.

I've read that these cranks are heavy; I'm kind of suprised with them as heavy as they are that they needed to add the balance shafts, but I guess there's only so much that can be done with the crank alone to elimanate the inherent vibration in a 4-cyl.

true.
Mine are off and there is hardly anyvibration.
Except in the 1000-1900 rpm range.

Mine are off in the Quest....so horribly inefficent....and Porsche licensed em from Mitsubishi (Starion/Conquest) but they suck in the quest and acutally do some good in the porsche...
