A computer wired directly to Rennlist.

A lift of course, and a good heating and ventilation system so that your cars and equipment always have the proper enviroment.

A floor without edges and shelves mounted on the walls so you can clean it easily by just getting some water on it and brush out all of the dirty stuff.

A remote controlled garage gate.

A big heavy fire proof safe, possibly attached to the building itself to keep documents in. Hidden if possible.

A halon system to kill all fires and preserve everything undamaged in the garage in case of a fire.

I'm sure I'll think of more..

Glad to hear it!

Unfortunatly it didn't fit in my little garage so it's in the basement play room
If the tap looks like it isn't centered, it's not, I plan to put a second one next to it. The box mounted on the side is a digital thermostat and the red hose goes out to the CO2 cylinder in the garage.

2 kegs and a carboy of homebrew! I can fit a 3rd keg and another carboy with no problem and 4-5 six-packs in the door, the bottom door shelf is for wine and the drawers have soda and beer. The freezer is full of hops and ice.

The wine cellar is on the other side of the room, booze is my friend!

Lift, a good workbench, beer fridge, internet connection. Compressor with hose reel. Shelving for parts/tires/wheels. Good tool storage. That would be my perfect garage.

I knew I had a list somewhere… compiled from different posts/people…

1. Cordless phone
2. Speakerphone
3. Hydraulic lift, 5-ton jack, "Rhino" ramps, hydraulic bottle jacks, and jack stands
4. DVD/VCR/TV so that you can watch instructional videos on tuning engines, etc
5. SPEEDVISION!!!
6. A nice big tool case with wheels on it (in addition to the ones that are fixed)
7. Refrigerator for cold refreshments
8. Wash-up sink
9. Parts washer sink
10. Computer complete with digital camera, manuals on CD-ROM, and internet connection
11. Non-skid tiled floor
12. Carpets/rugs to check for leaks and keep mess off of tiled floor
13. Air compressor and air tools
14. Several high-powered lights and low temp work light (fluorescent)
15. Tig welder, heat gun, and acetylene torch
16. Drawer with a few pairs of coveralls in there so you don't go through clothes all the time.
17. Oscilloscope, digital multimeter, digital micrometer, digital calipers, and temperature probe/sensor
18. Fireproof cabinet for cleaning chemicals
19. HUGE fan (to cool down engine, exhaust, etc and to get fumes out of garage
20. Hole drilled in garage door, and tube to use to expel exhaust gases from garage in winter
21. A TON of Porsche posters, flags, toys, etc
22. Drill press, drills, electric saws, grinder, polisher/buffer, and other electric tools
23. Alarm system (to keep out intruders!!!)
24. Engine stand
25. Workbench
26. 220V service for the welder
27. Full bathroom
28. Reel with electrical extension
29. Reel with air hose
30. Two chairs, one low profile (the kind that has a tool tray), and one for the computer that can also be use as a chair for working in the car (also with a tool tray)
31. Because of the amout of oil our cars use... two or three plastic oil catchers (the ones that hold some 12 quarts)
32. EVERY garage MUST contain at least ONE "pinup" calendar that the wife/girlfriend/significant other does not approve of! This is a MUST! No respectable garage is without one! These are the rules and we as car enthusiasts must adhere to them! It does not have to be Playboy or something like that, but bikini-clad women in/around/near sports cars or on beaches is a requisite. This is age-old tradition so don't question it!

I'm somewhat in the same boat. I should close on my new garage around March 5th or so.
Jamie's list is right on the money with the addition of a good heating system (it gets cold here in the winter).
Since I'm in the cabinet business, I'm going to build my own workbench, desk, and storage cabinets.
Here's a preliminary computer rendering of what I'm going for.

SWEET! Very nice - and congrats on the new garage!

Heat's not an issue here (unless it's how hot it gets). I'm thinking about a ceiling fan and extra lights for the reverse effect.

Sales consultant looked at me real funny when I said I needed a CAT5 connection in the garage. Can't wait to tell him about the ceiling fans.

Mobil 1 on tap would be the coolest thing ever.
Only thing I'm going to add is a shed inback of the garage for the air compressor - soundproofed.

Pete,

I like the black cabinet fronts....no fingerprints, good thinking!

In my garage I have,

TV wired to sat dish (speedvision, yes)
18" concrete curb under walls (spill/wash floor without rotting walls)
Integral colored concrete (if I chip the floor color is still there, not slipery like epoxy paint)
Copper air lines with quick releases (plumbed inside walls)
Air Compressor in closet outside of garage (quiet)
400 amp, 3 phase power (have mill/88 amp mig/tig/stick welder)
14 foot ceiling height (will allow future lift)
Two line phone jack (phone/data)
Cordless phone
Laptop computer
Stereo System
Two tone Door bell (one tone for the front door, one for side door)
Insulated and sheetrocked
Insulated motorized garage door
1,800 square feet

Bill, you luck man. They have 3 phase service to your house? I am running a rotary phase converter for one of my "toys" in the garage.

Lots of plug ins. I have one every four feet around the whole garage.
(with exception of the garage door ) and you can never have enough lighting.

I currently have two rows of two eight foot fluorescent lighting in a 24 x 24 garage, I wish I had another row.

My .02

Anders – Good ideas, get everything up and out of the way!
Jamie – Nice list my man – thanks!
Red 944 – Sound proof air compressor shack – trick!
Zehnd – Great idea on the outlets – I hadn’t even considered that.
Bill – Like the door bell idea! Can’t quite figure out the 18” concrete curb though. Can you elaborate?
Thanks to everyone for the ideas!
