I paid 80 bucks at sears. But I know the tech and he knows what he is doing.

I would not recommend a chain though. But then again a good tech makes all the difference.

It did take him about 3 hours to do the job.

This is probally no help though.

Pretty big disparity and I'd have to lean to the Pcar dealer. The reason other shops were on my list was convienience to my house. The dealer is across the lake (36miles).

Is there something magical about aligning a 944/turbo/968?

What did you pay?
Forget the dealer, they suck at this dealership. The best two wrenches they had, left. One to the Porsche dealership in Austin, Tx. The other went to Greff Motors. You should take it to Randy Greff. He's by Ocshner Hospital 504.834.6955 talk to the owner Randy. I'm having mine done soon as well..

looking for the exact same thing in the nashville area....i don't know a mechanic, and i really think i need to know a mechanic. I could just take it to the local porsche dealership, it's like 2 miles from my office, but i KNOW they are going to ream me.

porsche, audi, saab, jaguar...they won't let anyone without a verified 100K credit line test drive a used car there...

anyway, i know they'll try and roll over me if i don't know someone, and i could stand a bit of advice...

I got my alignment on my 84 944 done for 150 through a friend who has done corner balancing and alignments on all Porsches for track use. It turned out that my car was straight and solid after taking it to him. If you live in San Diego and need a good alignment, goto Mirage Intl. and talk to Jae. He's a great guy and is very smart when it comes to 944s too.

I guess I received an OK quote when I was told $139. There is an independent Porsche shop in Marietta. (Auto Atlanta) I have only had bad problems with parts, so I am not inclined to go there.

Matt, Is there anyone in the Marietta/Woodstock area you would recommend? (aka "The Company")

LSU, I'd agree with Matt. The only "trick" is setting the rear ride height. After that the Hunter computer/rack just tell you what to adjust and by how much. Our alignment tech has been doing then for 20 years.

$139.99 and it's good as long as you own the car.

We did an alignment on a kid's mustang that had just put camber plates in, and he comes back about every 2.5 weeks just to have it checked.

James - I just talked to my buddy down there and he says you should go to Butler Tire. One thing he said for sure DO NOT GO TO AUTO ATLANTA. His office is just down the road from them and he tells me there one alignment rack never gets used and that he wouldnt trust them to align his 914 (and that is their specialty).

Sorry I couldnt help more but I prefer to be honest than send you somewhere you will be dissatisfied with.

We have a local Porsche shop, "P3", that specializes in 944's (both street and track). They quoted me $180 for a 4 wheel alignment and corner-balancing.

185, Mountain View, California, all four wheels, street setup, at a shop that does Porsches all the time. I was happy with the results.

I think I paid $250 to have the H&R sport springs installed, the rear lowered to match, and to have alignment done. This was at EuroTire in north NJ, where they know Pcars well. I think alignment is usually $125 or so, more if you want corner balancing.

I appreciate the honesty. Butler Tire is a good store. I had also thought about NTB, they have done well for me in the past.

Personally, I think ANY shop whether it be independent or chain has the potential to be a good shop. I used to work for Goodyear for about 5 years and I ran a few of their shops for a few years as well, and we had good techs, mediocre techs and "super-techs".

Some techs I would trust with my cars without regard, and I met some techs that I would only trust to install tires. But as long as you know who you're dealing with and/or they have a good reputation for working on your specific make/model then you should be good to go.

As far as equipment, we even had the lead tech at a Porsche dealership bring their cars to us for alignments since they didn't have as good equipment. However, their tech was under the car with my alignment guy telling him exactly what he wanted done so he could learn.

Sometimes you get what you pay for....other times you get lucky and find good deals!
