Currently waiting on some parts to arrive. I have been taking time cleaning and removing items from the engine still. So much grease and oil on this thing must of had a pcv and a few gaskets failing.

Wow, that's a greasy engine! Maybe soon it'll look like the pretty one in the previous pic.

Can you talk about the motor origins/spec and plans?

get a big scrub brush, some mineral spirits, and a big catch pan. set motor above pan, dip brush in mineral spirits and scrub engine down.
most of the crap will melt off, finish with brake cleaner spray and itll be super clean with not a lot of work or cost.

Sound good been doing the mean green, oven cleaner and brake cleener method so far. Mineral spirits is cheaper lol. I knew brake clean would get it good but gets pricey fast.

Well the motor is the infamous 5.7 LM7 Gen III. I really wanted a LQ4 or LQ9 6.0 but since I found this one running very cheap I figured I would focus on a very budget build so others can get an idea of the cost of the absolute basic swap. Once I get started I will give full pricing and parts just to get the motor in the car and running.
I found motor local for $500 with harness and ECU. The owner stated it had around 100k on it but he had got it from someone else for his Avalanche truck. I don't believe its 100k but it runs and I felt good about the guy I got it from. He seemed legit and down to earth.

Amazing what a wire brush, mean green and brake cleaner can do. Going to hit it with mineral spirits for a final clean like Spencer suggested. Engine is probably 90 percent degreased now. The iron block needs to be repainted which I will do that after the final clean and some wire brush action to remove flaking paint. Can't decide on what color combo to do. Maybe a gunmetal or black block with the aluminum heads... Not sure on valve cover and intake colors either.

The time has almost come. Just got a few more parts in and cleaned up the garage to have a good starting point. I will start a new thread just for the swap next week.

Just wanted to put some of these here and update my thread. Recently finished a $300 paint job on the car. I used Kirker Performance Red Single Stage Urethane (very close guards match, guards has a minor blue in it) and a Urekem Urethane Red Sealer. Painted it with a Harbor Freight gun and a 6 gallon air compressor lol. Not perfect but way better and can always redo it later if I want.

Started pulling my interior for my RS carpet install. When I got the car I pulled most of the sound deadening out, back seat and spare to cut weight from the car. The weighed sound deadening is just from the driver and passenger foot area, got most of it but not all. Left some around the tunnel where the dash is. I really think it’s closer to 15lbs, I had a hard time weighting it but I picked up a 15lb weight at the same time and it felt equal too or slightly heavier.

Found some rust on the driver side pedal area. Going to wire wheel, vacuum, wipe down and use naval jelly to eat the remaining rust. After that I will get some rustoleum Sunrise Red to paint over and protect it.

Looking good. Are you using the RS carpet template that has been floating around on Rennlist (can’t remember the member’s name who did it)? I’m thinking of doing that, but just behind the front seats back to the hatch with a rear seat delete.

I got an Appbiz RS carpet with rear seat delete off of eBay a few months back I am using. I think I have seen that template, was it the guy that got an App is carpet and modified/redid a few pieces? I think it was a white 951.

Yeah, I think that was the one. Finally found his username: mj951. So did you contact Appbiz to make your kit, or did you find it second hand?

I got it second hand new in box. I had contacted Appbiz to see if they still made them as they were a special order anyway and not on their site but never heard back. The guy I got it from said they stopped making them but I don’t think that’s true. There’s a company on eBay that can do it for the 944 and I am pretty sure it’s Appbiz I talked to on there.
